Hey folks a local hire firm has a Sheisling MX220 which used to be a great machine, but now they have locked the roller settings  to stop people from running it at full tilt, will my insurance be void as the machine has been tampered with?

Is a vehicle fitted with an aftermarket speed limiter voided for insurance purposes?  I suspect if that allows wiggle room to not pay out a claim,  probably.

Possibly an insurance co might try to claim foul, but a good solicitor and expert witnesses would surely convince a judge that limiting the feed rate hadn't made the machine dangerous and or that it operated outside of the manufacturers design tolerances.

If you're concerned inform them

Most hire companies know diddly squat about how these machines work. They probably think they're saving it.

If you explain to them how the stress control works they might relent.

They have the rollers locked at a very slow speed, which causes it to choke on conifer etc. bit like hiring a Ferrari that's stuck in first. Now hire a Timberwolf 190 from another hire firm, a lot cheaper too and the owners aren't bellends.
