Hi Jase got told it could be something to do with the Pistons in the engine burning water there is no water in the oil and no oil in the water. They said the fan was on the right way. I have hired a timber wolf for a month till I can work out what to do. Might try and sell it to someone who knows what they are doing as I have no time to be with out a chipper. I had all my saws stolen as well 2 days before my holiday not having too much luck.

It is indeed the same engine as in the Mk1 19-28 Trackchip and still used in the 19-28  roadtow, it changed designation during its life to the 4LE2 and then a few years later reverted back to being known as the 4LE1 again.

Only real issues have been 'head gasket' failures which once replaced will seldom give any more trouble due to an improved gasket design..

Just picked up on this thread, dose the radiator have an oil cooler in front, on the side or built in, If so it may be worth checking the hydraulic system is not causing the problem with super heated hydraulic oil causing heat transfer to the coiling system. A long shot but we have had this problem with other types of machinery in the past.  Good luck, BB

No oil cooler fitted to a standard 1928. Large oil capacity mean that it wasn't necessary. The fan is on backwards - Jase and I looked at one in the factory. I would go back to basics and check the cool compartment, radiator condition, coolant levels, caps, hoses, fan and so on......
