Yes you can put the post code or address i don't plan on recording them this is just an Arbtalk search. I just got thinking today how many big Elms are left in this country and will they survive or become extinct. I was at an arboretum earlier in the year and one of the resistant Elms had now got DED.

I can think of about 10 big ones near me...considering they where the most common tree on the landscape thats not many i think these are all wych elms the last big english one i know of i felled last year:sad::sad::sad:

Great thread!

Check out my avatar... believed to be one of the largest Elms in the country but TBC - you can just make me out in the canopy. Considering all of the tree measuring I've done in the last year, the fact that I haven't yet accurately recorded data from this one makes me hang my head... it's in my parents garden! Huge at the base. A proper old burr elm.

Has anyone had experience of collecting / propergating seed from elm? I've been meaning to give it a go for probably 20 yrs!

I know David Alderman, the chap that runs their database....... a more knowledgeable man on champion trees, does not exist.

Indeed... but hellish difficut to get hold of sometimes - always out measuring trees!
