Most trucks will tow 3.5 tonne some do it legally, Not many will stop with that weight behind most pickup sacrifice load weight for train weight. With overun brakes a recipe for disaster. Your tow truck needs to weigh a similar amount to the trailer if not more this is basic physics

This leads you to Landrover 130(maybe)or iveco, transit and Toyota

What others have I missed

what engines in it .2.3 is a bit lame ,

 

After putting the 3rd or 4th clutch in one of our 3.5ton ivecos we have been told that there are 2 variants. Unfortunately you can't just put a heavy duty clutch in the standard..? That explains our difference in experience..

Not sure about that, but I was told that they're dual mass flywheels. I was warned that when the clutch goes it usually takes the flywheel with it and on the 2.3l you can replace with a solid flywheel conversion but not the 3l as the extra torque is too much for the drivetrain, so has to be replaced with the very expensive DMF.
