Old 2 stoke mix is it so bad?

Well I am fastidious about the mix ratio,

and have run the wee 026 this 20 years on the same neglectful  regime, though I try and lay her up with a dry tank, but certainly not always,  not running on a 5 day a week professional basis, and no big hardwood sticks to really work her on, but ah cut a quare wheen o sticks, sur!

Other than an internal bearing failure, zero issues in these 20 years.

The carb was set at the local dealer when I bought the saw, and tweeked after bedding in, if I recall.

Other than that a very occasional new plug, and keeping the chain sharp, I leave well alone.

I was commenting more on stating that it is fine to run a saw on old fuel and not stating the parameters of the actual test.

I reckon if you stuck a 20" bar on the 390 and did half an hour continuous ringing up of 2' timber with old fuel, it wouldn't last but it is always the owners choice what they do!

I have done a number of seized MS880/088s in my time and when asked if they empty the tank after using the saw because of infrequent use, most just stare at you blankly and ask why.
A saw will be more likely to seize if run under heavy load for prolonged use through larger timber!

What about motomix Spud? We run all our saws on it because we have lots of people using the saws and before we brought premix fuel no one could remember who had mixed the fuel or if they had or when they had....
2 seizures later we opted to run everything on motomix. Is it ok for a saw to sit on the shelf with the tank full of premix and then just start it and work it on that same fuel? In your opinion..
Thanks

Appears to say poor rough sooty running, as a result of stale fuel, it does not mention seizing at all, if I read/understood it, but obviously a tad simplistic for the layperson..

But I dont tweek at the carb settings for ultimate performance, nor indeed, do I have the timber to properly test my saw in.

But, as someone else on here says, I only speak as I find it.

Motomix and Aspen will be fine within the guidelines and shelf life of the fuel!

Not a problem at all, keep doing what works for you and guess using old fuel is saving you having to spend out £££ on fresh fuel.

The BP document does say two weeks for fuel to reside in equipment and to use beyond that with caution but keep doing what you are happy with.
