English Nature Spec, something to do with thorn scrub destroying the habitat for rare plants exclusive to chalk grassland.

looks like a blanket cover, i c 3 per square hectare, they come up with some specials.. farmers are getting paid to let their horn hedges grow tall for bird habitat....what an eyeshore they are......

The plan is to stop further encroachment of scrub shading out the grassland, but I agree scrub in it's own right is a fantastic habitat, finding the balance is the key, but not for me to decide, I just do the cutting. We only had one fire site on a 1 ha site so nettle growth will be negligible

Just near Millington on the Yorkshire Wolds, did consider cutting out the firewood but not really economical to do on this job and wanted to beat the weather. Got two more dales to clear this winter but the thorn is smaller more scrub like.
