Nesting birds again

Just had a client stand us down on starting a job next week as he had been told it is illegal to cut down any trees before September by the planning office due to potential nesting birds, this came as part of the letter back saying no objections from a conservation area application but...... as above.

I was under the impression that it was only a problem if birds were actually nesting in those trees and not a blanket no trees must be cut at all...

Opinions welcome but I'm off to look up the wildlife and countryside act...

Any active nests are protected, anything not in use is fair game.

You're right.

The problem is checking.

We've pulled off plenty of dismantles after finding live nests, but fells are a bit pot luck, especially with connies.

Half an hours observation can help when you're setting up.

many yrs ago -we thought we were ok one day on felling a beech (a council owned tree approved for removal) - was absolutely gutted when we discovered there was a barn owl nest with eggs in a hollow in the tree
