broken branch

Hi,

yesterday I saw a branch of my tree falling down slowly. Hopefully there is no damage but it was impressive.

I wonder why a branch like that could breake, do you have any idea ?

 

I thank about some hydrique stress because it was a very hot day.

There is no obvious effect, no fungies. Thank you for the link.

The tree morphology is wrong. It looks like the tree has lost its central leader (quite a while back) which has allowed the remaining crown to develop in a poor shape. (morphology)

 

The (now) broken branch was exploiting that nice bit of open sky you can see in the pictures, in the process it grew till it could no longer support its own weight.

Generally i come across summer branch drop atter the first rains after a period of no or little rain.

I have no evidence to support this other than twenty years of observation.

You're right, I just arrived in this house one month ago. The owner explained me that an arborist pruned this tree 3 years ago. It seems that the pruning was to hard, big axes were cut.

Today I see new branches had cracked, hope there will be the last.
