i use neat fairy liquid neat and a pot scrubber brush to remove chain oil a crud from the clutch / brake band and front of the saw crankcase etc it emulsifies the oil and crap , i do this when i remove the bar for cleaning the rails etc and side cover cover , rinse under the tap and blow it with airline . around the carb area i use the airline and its only some dust in there really nothing oily , looks brand new every time

I don't like pressure washing machines as it gets in the electrics and drives dirt into seals and bearings.

 

+1 on this to me anything mechanical more so if it contains electrics/electronics water under pressure is a big No No

What’s the best way to clean the shit off you’re saw and not just blast it all over your workshop , bench and floor ? Just to save covering everything with saw dust , oil and cleaner .

You need to use a paint brush and white spirit on the dirty parts, put the saw in to a booth, box, large card board box etc and use an air line, anything else is just slow and laborious. You need to be a bit smarter to catch as much crud as you can but it still gets everywhere.....!!
