Got a call at the weekend, a guy I've worked for before, he has a large Cherry that has blown over and is sat on his garage roof.

He spoke to his insurance broker who said they would send him a claim form.

We are going tomorrow to clear it.

He rang tonight to say his insurers have informed him that they will only pay for any damage and not the removal of the tree.

He was not at all happy and kept asking to speak to higher people.

Then one guy says could you not get a cheaper price??

The his broker Say's "hang on John wants a word with you"

So John comes on and says "I can get a mate of mine to come and clear it at the weekend"

The customer says "is he a pro??"

John says "No he's a teacher"............................ WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If even insurance brokers are advocating the use of weekend warriors, what hope is there?????????:confused1:

Needless to say we are still going in the morning.

MAke sure you invoice it as 99% to clear the obstruction and 1% to remove the debris cos they won't pay for the removal from site of the debris!!!!

As for what "John" said- I'm speechless, but I think a call to your insurance company to let them know what is going wouldn't hurt?? And John should really get sacked for promoting poeple doing dangerous activities without insurance!!!!!!

Does all go to show though that insurance is a joke, hence my usual rants!!

would i be right in saying they will not pay out for you to remove the tree because your price was to dear but if "John's" mate done it then they would pay out?

That just shows what kind of state the country is in and why i dont like insurance companies.

.

No they won't pay at all, they are just saying I'm too dear (without even seeing the tree) and that my customer can get it done on the cheap.

Yes I've had that one before, my bill would be for "making safe", his daughter is having the logs.

But they still won't pay

I went to look at a job once where a limb on a big ash next to the house had a split appear in it. The customer had rung the insurance company, but they wouldn't pay out for the remedial work to the tree to prevent it from causing any damage to the house. But they would pay out if he waited until it fell against the building. Work that one out!
