Get an airbrush and water based transparent paint, you can create stunning effects without loosing the character of the wood.

 

If only the Rainbow Eucalyptus would keep its colors after felling in the timber and not just the bark.

I've looked into this. You would need a very big vacuum bag. The liquid mainly used is cactus juice. It would be very expensive to do a table top.

 

Second that. It's an expensive operation even in something as small as a pen blank. Even if you could find someone with a large enough vacuum or pressure chamber it would absorb so much resin the cost would be horrific.

Hi guys thanks for your replies , as for price I think spill resistant bar tops , with the stunning colours that it would have would be well worth a few grand , and bathroom sinks , I am sure once it was all set up it would get cheeper, who knows some company that makes resin may have some sort of deal , so I will just start gathering the kit I will need and see where it goes if anybody has a vacume pump, bag they dont want any more and if any of you want to get involved in having a go please do give me a shuot will keep you informed of my progress

I'd be very interested to see how they come out.

The cactus juice needs heat to cure it. So if you were to use that you would need an oven to fit your products in.

There is quite a bit on you tube doing small bits. Worth a bit of time watching them.

Hi Chris

I might be looking for a piece of wood that is stabilised for use on my gun stock as an extension piece. When finishing, how does the material take oil as a finish and is possible to buff to a high gloss?

Is Bog Oak also suitable?
