I find it odd that none of the manufacturers see the sense in fitting a button, to be pushed ahead of, or early during a long planned journey, that would "inform" the engine management to do a regen,

if say the DPF was 60-70-80% full.

Having experienced the Octavia deciding to regen during an 8 mile return trip, after a cold start, having  done a planned  200 plus mile continuous journey the previous day !

Mole Valley Farmers & BASC from memory, may be others...  MVF member card is an Aryton (I think you have to have had it for a month or so prior to vehicle purchase).
