Depression

I cant relate to the OP as fortunately I have never suffered from depression. I have had the odd time of despair when I couldnt handle what was going on at the time but have always been able to sort it.

I hope you can work through the problem you are having. I have known a few genuine depressed people and it is a terrible thing, mostly ending in the worst case scenario.

Hopefully you are just a blag depressant and you are just a miserable sod that needs to get a grip on life and sort yourself out. :001_smile: BTW I mean that in the best of ways as some people think that is the way a truly depressant person should be spoken too, they cant, they cant snap out of it, shake themselves up or get a kick up the arse.

The thing is there just aren't the specialised centres. Again not to give.an indication to whom I'm talking about someone else I know threatened suicide and was taken to a & e one Saturday night around 6 months ago. Was referred to the local NHS specialised department to get further help and still waiting on a first appointment. If it were a broken leg you'd be seen the same day [emoji26]

We've established how to fix a broken leg.

I take your point.

Where does positive thinking come from when you're depressed? That's a contradiction in terms!

It's not easy!

Yep I agree, but there has to be a starting point, an assessment I suppose, often that's down to the GP.

We'd all like specialist treatment from the start, but due to the amount of time wasters/worried well, it just can't work that way.

In NZ you have to see you're GP first for a referral anyway. After becoming near suicidal on the first meds I knew something was wrong, went back to my own GP and told him I needed help. He checked my meds, records, asked about symptoms etc and referred me immediately. Saw someone at the mental health department within 2-3 weeks. I just don't agree with docs pushing anti depressants (or antibiotics for that matter). I'd prefer, if there is a real issue, the person is referred.

I get handed back over to my GP shortly but have my psychologist's number and I can contact her as I need.

Just to add, I've never really heard of gps "pushing antidepressants or antibiotics " in fact, I can't imagine any medical professional pushing antibiotics, quite the opposite nowadays.

I'm very aware it's not easy, been down the road myself. What I mean is to utterly try to hold on to it. I know when it's low the positive thinking is hard to even think about.

I've not been there Stefan, so I probably shouldn't be commenting, although I do have experience of the situation.
