Hi,

I have been offered my first job this Friday and I want to make a good impression. So I went to the sight today to check out the tree.

Can anyone help me identify this?

I was thinking oak or sycamore but the brush at the bottom has thrown me.

Also I couldn't get up close.

Also any comments on best practice for this site would be helpful.

Thanks.

I'd suggest common Lime (Tilia xeuropea) with the typical 'epicormic bush' at the base and, unfortunately, but not uncommon, decline / dieback in the upper crown.

PS questionable protective fencing in situ.

PPS Gud'on'ya for taking the initiative n going to site early

It's a common Line, and like Paul has said questionable tree protection fencing and looks like someone's had a go cleaving the epicormic off.

To be honest as for best practice I'd say nothing and get stuck in, get a feel of things first.

its a lime, the mass of growth around the base is a big sign when you cant get close to check out the buds.

Good on you for getting out and trying to make a good impression. Over the years people can teach you all the arb skills you need but no one can teach you to want to be a good arb man and it looks like you've got that already. All you need now is the right people to give you the right chances. Keep learning and stay safe and you will be running your own crew in no time. Keep it up!
