Discs for cake stand.

Hiya~

Just after some ideas if anyone can help. Have been asked by my daughter to supply some rounds for her wedding next year. never done anything like this before so am after any info if possible. Just wondering on best wood to use and drying to stop splitting. Also when ready plane or sand?

Cut a few for over the years. Not had feedback when customers have bought them well in advance but cant see why they would not crack if they have dried. Have cut baby rings from 3"-4" dried logs that have not cracked through drying but have to pick through a lot to find the few that have not split. These got used for place names for the gusts and looked pretty cool.

I've done a lot of these over the years in elm and cedar and nearly all have split regardless of when they were cut but I have never had any complaints. I planed and sanded all mine to 240 grit then a couple of coats of food safe oil to show the grain better, the last ones I did in elm looked a treat
