work experience lad

I might be bringing a lad along to a job this coming week to assist 2 other groundies . He is in Arb College at the moment. He won't be asked to use a saw (unless he has a ticket and wants to practice snedding out) or feed the chipper, but he will be asked to fill saws, drag brash etc.

He is 16 years old so I assume i should check my insurances to ensure he covered etc.

He will have the required PPE etc.

Is there anything else I need to do before he comes onto site?

Thanks, W

Yep. Check with insurance, make sure RA are in place and if he's doing the placement as part of the college course, I'd imagine the college would have come out and met with you? Probably not a bad shout to give them a call to see if there is anything else that they might need you to tell them

Cheers folks, I'd better do some more reading on the subject and do a specific risk assessment based on his 'abilities/duties'.

Normally with so few of us onsite we do a verbal risk assessment and discuss the method statement etc, but we don't actually document it unless we are on a commercial job or are requested to do so by a private/domestic client.
