Echo CS-450 or CS-501SX?

Hi everyone,

 

Been browsing the forums for the last 4 or 5 years, but thought it was about time to say hello and ask for a bit of advice.

 

I've currently got an MS290 on a 18" bar (~15 year old), but she's a bit temperamental, so decided it was time for an upgrade. I've been looking at Stihl's, but after lots of research on this site, I think I'm going for an Echo (I've actually got an Echo multi tool).

 

Problem is, do I buy a CS-450 or pay the extra £100 and have the CS-501SX that everyone seems to be raving about??

 

I think I'd like to stick with an 18" bar (definitely no bigger).

 

It will be used on and around our land - mainly for logging and the very occasional felling (namely Ash & Sycamore).

 

Any advice on which way I should go would be much appreciated.

Why not husqvarna 550xp/560xp great saws:thumbup:

I have both. The 501sx is the better saw, and great with 18" on it. The 450 is bomb proof but better with a 15" than an 18" and still a tad heavier than the 501 and not as powerful. The fuel filler caps on the 501 are also a tad bigger so no struggling to fill it. They're all easy to start, but the decomp on the 501 makes it sooo easy

501SX I would say - it is one of the new modern Echo saws and a little cracker!

Out of curiosity does anyone have trouble with the auto tune part of the saw anymore? Early 550s didn't like starting when it was sunny out but that's been sorted. Only carb I'd say was crap was on the 200t which failed every 6 months. 201 carbs seem much more reliable?

we have two echo 501SX at work seem to be great saws, super light and nice and revvy . cant comment on the new husky equivalent but its simmilar to the older 346xp. not as powerfull as the stihl 261 but ours suffered the needle bearing issue and no longer really works shame as lovely saw otherwise. so all in all i would have no problems recommending the echo 501SX

Id go for the 501sx,

 

Im sure the mere mention of inboard clutch...
