strimmer / brush cutter advice

Hi all

just looking for some feedback on strimmer/brush cutters. I am looking to buy a few new strimmers. I have always used stihl that could be tuned with a screwdriver, now it has a lap top is needed i am starting to look elsewhere. I am a simple person who has always used a screwdriver not a pigging laptop!

could anyone recommend an alternative. I have heard good things about makita,echo and tanaka but never used one.

 

any advice would be reatly appreciated

Dont know what power your looking for but i got a 4stroke Honda 35cc thats brilliant and have used the Makita and that was great aswell

Be careful in chosing your weapon,price is important obviously but remember to conscider the hand and arm vibration exposure.Some of these machines can be brutally high.The tanaka's are very high on havs.

We have 5 fs410's at work and they do everything from shredding bramble with a mulcher blade to strumming around the edge of plantations, even had a circular saw blade on them in the woods last week, they have easy start or ergo start 'whatever they call it' which works very well, we never have any problems with them. When I was self employed I bought an fs490 which was an absolute beast of a machine, it was 52cc and would wack through long grass with 3mm cord with no dip in revs, (did get through the cord quick though).

Can only recommend what I have and that is Husqvarna 545 RX. 45cc . Spins 4.0mm diamond edge line in an Oregon Jet Fit head or the Oregon mulching blade . Great tool .

Best idea is look at what the big fleets are using, almost all are Stihl FS460's. We sell and maintain a lot of them There is little problem with the M tronic and this usually occurs when the guard is removed and excess cord used. The clutch housing can split, but this is the result of banging the head too hard on the ground due to a worn or sticking bump feed. Parts reasonable and easy to get, and a good resale value at end of day
