Without discussing Brands, for me, an Arb chipper needs to be at least 10" capacity, infeed at least twice that width, minimum of 50hp (preferable 100hp), mounted on a twin axle chassis with 360 turntable, and weigh no more that 2 tonnes.

The feed table should be no higher than 650mm from the floor, and at least 1200mm wide.

It should have a hydraulic crush facility, built in winch, storage for tools / spare blades, roadcones, rakes and a shovel

It should drop no rubbish whilst chipping, and have enough blow to pack a 12 foot chip box.

And it should be no more that £22k.

Other than Arb work, this is what we use -

Oh my god! this is going to open a can of worms!

I've used quite a few and there are two I'd consider if I ever bought one,

Jenson, we've used tracked and towed ones they seem very well made and work very well. Build quality seems very good.

Timberwolf, well only used the 150 both in tracked and road tow, They seem good machines but I think they need replacing regularly, we've been using one with 1000 hrs on this week and it seems tired, with bits loose and worn.

Having said all that a mate has been using an Arbor eater for the past 2 weeks and he's singing its praises, though I think they need to run it a bit longer to get an accurate verdict

The most important requirement for me was the letterbox infeed opening, needs to be twice as wide as it is high.

Wouldn't have a timberwolf for that reason, square infeed. They need servicing regularly.

Best thing to do is look at them all at the next Arb show and look at the build quality, thickness of metal etc.

That's why I ended up with Bandit, over engineered, typical yanks
