Wtf is neo feudalism

Neo-feudalism refers to a theorized contemporary rebirth of policies and social structures reminiscent of medieval feudal societies. This concept describes emerging socioeconomic trends that are creating a more hierarchical society with greater concentration of wealth and power.

Key Features of Neo-Feudalism

  1. Concentration of Wealth and Power: A small elite class, often compared to medieval aristocracy, controls a disproportionate amount of wealth and resources

    .
  2. Declining Middle Class: The middle class, which expanded greatly in the 20th century, is shrinking as economic mobility decreases

    .
  3. Growing Lower Class: An expanding property-less population, likened to medieval serfs, struggles with job insecurity and limited economic prospects

    .
  4. Tech Oligarchy: Large technology companies wield unprecedented power and control over information, acting as new "lords" of the digital realm

    .
  5. Clerisy: A professional-managerial elite that dominates academia, media, and culture, comparable to the clergy in feudal times

    .
  6. Parcellized Sovereignty: Political and economic power become increasingly fragmented and localized, with corporations sometimes wielding state-like authority

    .

Manifestations in Modern Society

Neo-feudalism is said to manifest in various ways:

  1. Gig Economy: Workers in precarious employment situations, dependent on platforms like Uber or Airbnb, are compared to serfs

    .
  2. Data as Resource: Tech companies extract value from user data, treating it as a natural resource to be exploited

    .
  3. Surveillance Capitalism: Large tech firms cooperate with governments, sharing information in ways reminiscent of feudal lords serving kings

    .
  4. Debt Peonage: Increasing personal debt levels create a form of economic servitude

    .
  5. Urban-Rural Divide: Growing disparities between prosperous urban centers and struggling rural areas mirror feudal divisions

    .

It's important to note that neo-feudalism is a theoretical concept and subject to debate. Critics argue that it oversimplifies complex modern economic systems. However, proponents believe it provides a useful framework for understanding growing inequality and power concentration in contemporary society.

What's the obsession with making new words, just call it feudalism.

Oh it's neo labour, nope just labour.

I hate to rain on the parade of these social science types, calling it something new just makes it dumber.

No doubt they'll be calling WFH neo feudalism, as you can save having to need an office ?.

It's the same reasons I refuse to use apps for shopping or loyalty discount prices, it the price isn't on the shelf I ain't paying.

I get what you're saying, I think the 'neo' bit is to point out that those ****************wit practises such as feudalism and Nazism were supposed to be consigned to history, yet they have reared their ugly heads again in a new form.

Whilst we'll disagree on the "nazi" American election stuff as I think that's mostly guff, from MSNBC who are still very butt sore especially that horse face women.

I'm of an age that unlike a lot of the yoof, I learnt that whilst fuedlism and all the usual things from history have never gone away.

Like prostitution, the old ways are the best if there's money to be made both extreme left or right will use it to line their pockets, BLM mansions good example.

Ripe old age of 42, but I do like my history both local and elsewhere that's what I mean and brought up in the golden age of TV and documentary before it got overtaken with the search for Bigfoot or finding aliens.

Most people I know just blindly ignore it

Ask them about land clearances and they'll just go you mean gardening.

Blind ignorance is on the increase.

I too was brought up in that golden age.

Have a good one.

Bruce Jenner?

I wonder how long before he gets rounded up and... reassigned...

That her, yes.

(one of Trumps ... many... discrepancies between what he says and what he does. Maybe he just doesn't realise - a horrifying thought - a bit like that scene in Trainspotting where Robert Carlisle is in the night club touching a man... wonder if Trump is angry cause he did the same?)
