i did have an expensive protimeter for timber which came with probes and a callibration table.... all whistles and bells

then some tw*t broke in and knicked it.

also looking for a good one now but not spening that much money again

Maplins about 20 quid. Accurate enough to let you know if the timber will burn or hiss

happened to be in maplins today to get a fuse for alarm system after some **** tried to break in and knick the gear.

anyway bought that moisture meter..

just as good as that protimeter i used to have and only £20

bargain!!

seen one on ebay, looks the same as the maplin one for about the same cost. what's the max moisture content you would let fire wood go out with, i guess the less the better but what % will it happily burn at.

The stuff I burn at home is generally about 30% which may be a little high but to be honest it burns well with little hissing. So in answer to your question stuff I sell is generally around the 30% mark as a general rule

30% sounds a bit high! If you can get your firewood below 20% it will be much better, but a good marketing point would be to advertise that yours is 15% or below. I believe Dean also does this.

Yes below 20% is good but I get mine down to around 15% as Pete says. Hard to get customers on board paying more for it but once they've tried a bag they see a massive difference to heat output.

You will never get logs down to 15% if you haven't got inside storage by the way or good cover
