Alpine Butterfly in Arboriculture
Uses: The Alpine Butterfly (also known simply as the Butterfly Knot) is a useful knot that all tree surgeons or anyone engaging in arb activities should be familiar with. It can be used midline to create an attachment point which can then be used for everything from attaching devices, serving as a stopper knot, to more complex retrievable system setups used in SRWP/SRT.
Pros and Cons: The Alpine Butterfly is a dependable mid-line knot which releases quite easily even after a heavy load. Once the method above is mastered, It is one of the easier midline-knots to tie.
