as the title says it, I am interested in what you guys would consider a decent start up vehicle. Dosnt have to be a tipper as I won't have a chipper for a while and won't be needing one really. My plan is to do small work on the side of my sub contracting working, such as hedges, small removals, pruning ect.

I have always liked front wheel drive vans. I have a Peugeot Boxer LWB and I love it. Loads of space good mpg easy to drive & park, low floor, i use it for my everday wheels and its good on motorway. A rear wheel drive pick up is great for towing chippers and loading chip & brush, logs, tree stumps. However I do more general garden maintenance & find I need ground work tools, mowers, brush cutter, hedge cutters ladders and hand tools. So a pick up ant for me! I also find evern with modern electric over run computer control modern 4x4 still have crap mpg & all the 4x4 I have seen apart from unimogs have very small loading space. There is more space in my cab than you get in the back of a landrover defender or hilux. I find vivaro or t5 size to small too. Its gotta be boxer, master, sprinter, iveco or ( old transit ) for me.

If you had the money and space you would have a big van, little van, pick up and tipper. You have to work out what you need most. Pick ups for towing, caring heavy loads and tools. Tipper with chipper will move tonnes of material and tools and tow. Vans are good for tools and cuttings and may tow. Do not forget if you are putting cuttings into a van the space will go very quickly.
