Anyone done much small scale thinning? Any advice would be great I'm currently hand thinning larch and beech not be touched for 50 years up a steep slope. I've asked for £32.50 per cube to within reach of a grab. Is this a reasonable rate? Some trees are 35 but most are 25cm base overbark. What is a usual amount to land? having to fell sned and winch, then cut 6 different products and stack ready to be forwarded out? I'm winching with a massey 35x and a 3.5 uniforest and my friend is forwarding with a palms and valtra what is going rate for forwarding? I've heard £6-7 a cube?. Cheers

My latest project. Chunked down to the crotch. Then felled against the lean (bout 17 degrees). Leaning over septic tank, had to go the other way. Used a trick I came up with, and it worked. This above was the state of the lean. This after making the cuts and cranking the tirfor, tree was at vertical. And down. Tirfor cable slung round the back of the stem, so the stem was in about 45 degree bite. There was no anchor point in the direction of pull, so I "pushed" it instead.

Hi. Was just wondering what the current rates are per tonne forwarding. Plus rates for winching 2 man and tractor set up. This is all for first thinning. Not clear fell. I'm running a alpine tractor and 6 tonne trailer and I can't see how the money adds up. All advice given would be greatly appreciated. I assume prices would be plus vat unless stated.

The HSE has issued new guidance regarding the application of PUWER for winching operations. This can be found by a Google search on "Application of PUWER for tree work winching operations" (see attached). It clarifies the application of PUWER and LOLER in these circumstances. Hi All Our little low impact Micro Arb Truck just went another step further in it`s development Winched a 35Ft long tree and 250/300 Kgs piece of Oak yesterday on a single line dead pull without skidding aid! The Oak left a trench!! lol Did it really well but looking for some more "test pilots" in the Reading/Berkshire area. Hope to post a youtube video link tomorrow (if I get chance) Does anyone have a woodland where timbers (3/4M-200/300Kgs) could ideally be pulled up a bank, looking to use the Micro Arb truck with our Log Arch both in a towing situation and also by using the winch and maybe a dead pull along the ground Thanks, Keith
