  1. 100%, nail on the head. If it doesn't help you, it's dangerous.
  2. Hate to be the odd one out, but... I find a second system handy here and there. When on moving rope, I'd use the other end now and then for more comfortable work positions. So now, when I'm up a tree on stationary rope, I'll often have my hitchclimber set up on the bridge too. Not always. And especially not the last tree at 15:30 on any day with a y in it ! Today I had twin stationary set ups on the go while deadwooding cedars, it helped more than it hindered. I was only ever really using one, but the other was always there, and it was super handy for bypassing limbs.
  3. I ended up getting the DMM 4L bag. £26 posted, so a little cheaper than the notch bag, and it's made by DMM, I do like DMM kit ! Except the XRSE biner which bent on my foot ascender today... 😡
  4. Cheers Mark, I may go for it. I saw a few bad reviews of other bags.
  5. I'm running 11.7 poisen ivy. 8m, but I'm tempted to go a little bit shorter. I've just not been using the long end frequently enough to justify all the extra hardware and rope for the double ended configuration. I want to cut some weight. Do you use the little black clip it is supplied with, or a mini prussik ? I'm not convinced by the attachment point for the loop on the back, looks like one little pop stud ?
  6. Yes, I've got a long one ! I've seen one guy on here has a silver bull bag. I wonder if anyone has an opinion of the NOTCH DITTY BAG ?
  7. Hello, what bag are you using for your lanyard excess ? Thanks in advance, Rob.
  8. I've got that rope in red, and yellow. The yellow seems more slippery to the touch. But I'm on hitches, so no problems, sorry !
  9. Surely when you ascend, your shackle ends up where I've drawn the blue line ?!? Put it on the carabiner where the pink dot is. No shackle. No need for a new tether !
  10. If that's a single leg tether, can't you just attach it on the side of the zig zag, on the lower carabiner ? I know it may upset the 'ol symmetry ocd' , but your shackle, along with the movement in the RW, must be where the problem is. There's plenty of room over the zig zag for that RW to move down a load.
  11. What do you use the pinto/cord/carabiner for ? A moving rope system on the tail ?
  12. That was a silly flight of fancy, it will be coming off. The whole redundancy argument is a ridiculous rabbit hole ! I am tempted to make a one end 4 or 5m lanyard to see how it goes. It'd be nice to cut some weight. I've been taking everything including the kitchen sink up trees since adding srt. I need to work backwards and taylor what's really needed.
  13. That's pretty cool, it'd be better on a petzl carritool.
  14. I do not have Insta, or any of that sort of thing. When in a busy crown, I use a short, very standard side strop. I also have a bag just for conifers ! This is my big tree side strop. It can also be used as my fruit tree rope, at 8m it is great for that. The orange 7mm hitch cord looping the whole harness was just me being silly one afternoon when I'd been thinking far too much about redundancy in the bridge ! Just haven't got around to taking it off yet. I made a long double side strop when I recently added srwp to my skills. I felt that it'd help me make the transition. At first, it was a bag of balls, when both ends were long. But now, with one end short, I just need to choose the right tool for the job when in the crown. Short for the obvious strop on, long for the more tricky work positioning. I like it a lot now that I've grown accustomed to it.
  15. I'd love to see that 👍
  16. I have my side strop/lanyard set as a double ender 🤐. One side I keep long for extended work positioning, the other side I keep short for standard stuff. The whole line is 8m, I rarely use the long side, so it stays daisy chained with the end clipped to a wire gate. The short end is very easy to manage, like my old side strop that was not so long as to be a stowing problem.
  17. But it would be better 😁
  18. Both at the same price point, bigshot seems to have a 6" advantage with regards to pole length. What's the best one ? Cheers, Rob.
  19. If you've only been at it for a few months, then stay on the ground. You need to learn the job first. Given a year of working hard, drinking lots of water, and eating more sensible, youll be a leaner version of your former self ! Learn knots, learn saw saftey, learn good pruning, you'll be doing VERY well if you're worth your salt after just a year ! But if you are somehow miraculously offered a course, never say no ! Although, it's best not to go in to these things totaly green. If you can learn as much as you can from observing and asking questions, it'll help you. Long story short, you're rushing it. Best of luck, Rob.
  20. I'd never be without one, it'd be like leaving the house with no trousers ! I have a basic little one for conifers and such like. But the pride of the fleet is my 8m poison ivy double ended, hitchclimber on each side, dmm shadow and ultra O biners, with a thimble loop on the long end, f&&&&&g sexy bit of kit ! If I'm climbing srwp and mrs, then my other rope wrench is with me in case I need to really hang on it for a position. To be fair, that never happens with the twin rope, but I like to be ready !
  21. Crack on ! I just wanted my answer before the thread descended in to the 'ol twin rope argument' !
  22. I get that, I really do understand. Because I've taken to using a new system (srt), I've taken it upon myself to learn the rules and acquire training. Much like when I did my tickets all that time ago, once furnished with the right technique, we learn more with experience. I just wanted to know what 'the man' had to say on the matter. I have a very nice lanyard, and I'm not afraid to use it !!!
  23. Thank you Paddy1000111, that clears thing up nicely 👍. I must say, that where multiple cuts are to be made, two systems are superior to a lanyard. I enjoyed todays climb, never thought I could have so much fun up a bunch of ivy clad sycamores !!!
