  1. They take some beating.
  2. I don’t think I have bought anything from Axminster that wasn’t top notch.
  3. I use a guide bar dresser, still only takes a minute. If your rails are becoming that uneven, that often, you need to take a look at your sharpening.
  4. I use a flat file on standard bars or a wet stone on the Sugihara/Tsumura type bars, takes very little time at all. What the hell kind of burrs are you creating that require a grinder?
  5. I think the H&S guy has got their wires crossed or just unclear on the regs. I would think they are expecting the Op to produce winch service records rather than LOLER records.
  6. Put the H&S man right on the situation as he clearly hasn’t got a clue.
  7. There is no requirement to LOLER your winches if they aren’t used for lifting, I can’t see why they are asking for this. If it’s going to gain you a decent contract then I would obviously have it done as it shouldn’t cost the earth. You will just have to explain the situation to the LOLER examiner or state that you use the winches as hoists occasionally, supply winch receipts and any service records you have for inspection. I’m not familiar with any LOLER examiners near you, Richard Almond possibly, a web search should supply a list of local contacts.
  8. Fantastic looking vessel, looks like it’s has arrived in perfect time, designed and built in the EU I believe. Just as well really if HS2 is anything to go by, sadly it would be delayed for another 4 years and cost 3 times more if the UK had anything to do with it.
  9. My French is still crap Stuart, so I tend to work for English speakers, Dutch, Belgians and Brits. I simply write out the work spec in simple English, reduction, prune, removal, fell, stump treatment etc then google translate it into French for the quote. I am in touch with a few quality French Arb guys down South if the OP requires some recommendations.
  10. Husqvarna and Aspen used to be sweethearts. Most Husqvarna dealers/ambassadors would recommend Aspen openly. Maybe they fell out or fell out of love, so Husqvarna produced their own version and dumped the ex.
  11. I switched to Aspen when Husqvarna brought out the 550/560xp, I’ve run all my new saws on it since. I have two ported 346xpg’s that I had run for years on pump fuel, I switched them over to Aspen also, never had any issues with either of them since then.
  12. That’s right, Navins crew took it down, they did a good job of it too. Totally pointless removal when all said and done.
  13. Forestry England aren’t much better than The National Trust when it comes to these decisions. They had the ‘Old Man of Kent’ felled at Bedgebury Pinetum , all 55 meters of it, due to excessive decay and the risk of failure. I ringed up the entire stem and took it to the yard to be made into play grade chip so the Tunbridge Wells kiddies don’t get their Gucci clothing dirty when they are on the swings. It was solid all the way to the main fork where one of the three leaders had previously blown out in a storm, inspection of this revealed a small rot pocket and honey bees. Just drove past this lovely Black Poplar in the grounds of the Deal castle, oddly enough, the frequent residence of The Duke of Wellington. English Heritage must have thought, feck it, let’s butcher our trees quick whilst everyone is looking the other way at The National Trust.
  14. Greed and corruption are the main reasons nothing is completed on time or on budget. It’s easier to blame Swampy and all the other soap dodgers though than hold these t***ts to account for this pointless and costly wildlife crime.
  15. They are replanting with a Sitka.
  16. I live in an area which has hundreds of turbines dotted around, yet the bird life is incredible, never seen a dead buzzard, crane or eagle yet, maybe they have good eyesight?
  17. That’s because this is an urban myth that was debunked decades ago.
  18. I burn at least 10m3 in just the one woodburner.
  19. The AA released a recall notice about this saw on 2nd August, not sure if it was posted on here. Should be able to read it at trees.org.uk
  20. Up to 760mm.
  21. And it wouldn’t pull the skin off a Rice Pudding.
  22. You could order a 20” chain to suit. 👍
  23. Leave me out of it, this if firmly the fault of the 10 year old Chinese kid who produced and packaged the piece of crap.
  24. The centre of London is at the statue of Charles 1, just south of Trafalgar Square, there is a plaque on the floor.
  25. Unless you know a scouser. 👍
