  1. There's a reason why tree companies are always a small group of lads ๐Ÿ˜‚
  2. Someone I know did that. Bought a house next to the pig farm and does nothing but moan about the smell and try to start petitions for them to sort it out?? Blatantly got the house because it was cheap and smelt like shite. Same happens with train lines, roads, schools, everything!
  3. Issues like that are difficult. Where do you draw the line between doing the work and getting a happy customer and not wanting to put your name to a shoddy job that possibly kills the tree because that's what the customer wants? It's made harder by other tree surgeons being happy to just lop off branches like in the OP's photo, take the cash and run. Any other industry like plumbing/electrics/roofing etc you would educate the client on why something shouldn't be the way they want it and why it should be done in X way instead. I'm meant to be doing a theory based arb course this year (undecided on exactly what one with corona and distance learning etc), what's the point if I learn all the biology of trees to then do what the customer says and do something that will kill it?
  4. Shame about the cuts too. Would have liked to see proper pruning cuts at the crotches instead of flat cuts 8"-10"+ away from the natural crotch. I feel that there's people who can't make a tree look nice pruning which is fine as it's all experience/learning, but cuts like that are just lazy...
  5. You ain't met the local Devonshire ladies. I can't understand them when I'm sober let alone drunk!
  6. Leave the poor f****** thing alone ๐Ÿ˜‚ If you HAVE to do something then look at a crown reduction programme ๐Ÿค”
  7. I completely agree and I wouldn't even know where to start. Forestry isn't my thing. I would be interested to know how much you think it would be worth though?
  8. The local farmer on my shoot had forestry guys in to do his stuff for him. I would be amazed if forestry guys could make enough money out of 75 trees to make it worthwhile getting the guys in to fell or using the boom fellers, have all the equipment, drag out all the wood and load it up for sale. Then again I know jack S*** about forestry and current wood prices so I wouldn't know!
  9. Usually they give me the 18 pint box but because of the lockdown they have loads of spare booze going. I've paid less than ยฃ1 a pint for some freshly brewed ale! Lets get the arguments going! ๐Ÿ–•๐Ÿ˜‚
  10. +1 for what Rich says. Don't budge on your quoted price. Who the hell says they will fell and clear 75 pines for the wood for free? I take it by "dismantle and fell" you mean they need to be climbed and dropped? Sounds like a local farm boy has watched too much swamp loggers and then realised that harvesting and dealing with timber isn't the "money maker" they saw on TV
  11. Let it roll Khriss! I just had a 36 pint keg delivered from my local brewery. What would lockdown 3.0(?) be without a heated debate and some name calling?!
  12. I bet a lot of "Protesters" have an arse twitching like its hooked up to the mains now they're all being investigated by the FBI
  13. I still don't understand these bloody insurance companies though. Benedmonds asked them a pretty simple question and instead of saying "Labour only subcontractors are classed as employees and are covered by your insurance" they said: "As they will be working under your direction and control, they would be classed as labour-only sub-contractors. Thatโ€™s the key element regardless of whether they use their own equipment." But nothing on his insurance document he said about at the start said labour only subcontractors are covered, it just says that "subcontractors must have their own insurance" I know that it means they are covered under his policy but why can't they ever give clear answers? ๐Ÿ˜‚
  14. I got one of the micro sized peli-cases for mine. The bluetooth seems to reach to my sena if it's nearby so I'm happy with that! I'll have to take it up for photos though!
  15. Will do, never usually climb with my phone as I'm scared to watch it drop and hit every branch on the way down ๐Ÿ˜‚
  16. You shouldn't have released this info! You're going to be jumped on like poor Sam now! ๐Ÿ˜‚
  17. Ah, I'll stick a logo'd shirt on and "Look proper". It's all publicly accessible land so there's no trespass issues, I was just curious as I have seen a lot of videos of people reviewing kit in public parks etc and was wondering if anyone has ever been told off. As far as I can find there's no laws or anything saying "Do not climb trees" so that's all the permission I'll bother with! The one I want to climb is ontop of a massive cliff that overlooks the ocean on one side and the town and right up the river on the other. Looks like a fun tree to climb!
  18. I guess worst case someone in a high vis tells me to get down and grow up ๐Ÿ˜‚
  19. That's the thing, this is a bit exposed as it's in a public area but the views are incredible! I was hoping to go up and take a coffee with me and spend a bit of time up there! Maybe I will try calling the council... ๐Ÿ˜ฉ
  20. Someone had to step up and do what I didn't have the effort to do... add arrows!
  21. I just used their charts, I did all the prep myself (stripping, filling and masking) and paid around ยฃ20 for what I called a "Blow and go" ๐Ÿ˜‚ You could probably take a new piece to a decorator suppliers and get them to scan it for the nearest RAL match?
  22. Rebuilt in September/October time. I bought it offline in a "spares/repairs" state and stripped it to nuts and bolts, ultrasonic cleaned everything, re-powdercoated the crankcase and rebuilt it! She's a beaut now! Got it like this Turned it into this!
