  1. I would say you should probably just try and find another accountant to help. Mistakes made through not knowing something as complex as the UK tax system inside out can be quite costly, and I've tended to find a decent accountant are worth their weight in abacuses.

  2. Give me a shout if I can help. I fund chippers all day long, and I have multiple lenders that have no issue with doing chippers, and generally cheaper than some other well known brokers...

As I understand it , from the vid , It was abandoned due to mechanical failure ( maybe the original owner could not afford , or know how to fix it ) the land was subsequently sold and the new owner of the land wanted it gone . Or have I missed something ?

Yeah sorry I commented before I had watched the video.....now I know because he says it literally right at the start...

Ive been using the Forst ST6D 25HP Demo machine for a week now and it is unbelievable.. It eats everything we throw at it.. My Greenmech was a 30HP petrol and could only do less than half the throughput that this ST6D does.. Very Impressed.

Obviously being a finance guy I've never chipped a branch in my life, but I do a lot of these chippers for clients and I've heard so many people say the same thing. It is an amazing chipper (or so I'm told...)

Thanks @ForestryFinance. I have used both chippers so don't need a demo, both good chippers but I couldn't go back down to a 6inch chipper ?. Do you know the price of a safetrack 1928? Cheers.

Fair enough, TR8 it is then! Great machine.

Give me a shout or PM me or whatever if you want to go ahead.

I’ve had one for a couple of years now & it’s been a great help, I think the newer ones have a different headstock & auxiliary pipes that are easier to use which is a good thing, front mud guards are all metal & Yanmar motor,  just glad Spectrum plant have taken them on because dealer backup was limited before

    Very nice!

Is that a couple of big screeners in the background as well? Yours?

Thanks for replies, think I am going to go with ST6D.. Does anyone know what the price is? I can't find any published price lists. I have their demo unit here and I think it is great. The st6d has the Kubota engine. What is a stage V engine please?

    ST6D is £16,500+VAT last I saw.

  8. Hi @jmac a TR8 is £27,950+VAT brand new.

TR6D is £23,500+VAT and is also an extremely capable chipper.

I can put you in touch with the dealer who handles all the Scottish Forst sales and I'm sure they could arrange a demo for you of whichever you are interested in. Let me know if you want to do that and I will make arrangements.

@Leicester Tree Care being in Leicester (presumably) Forst demo and sell direct, but again I can put you in touch with the relevant people to sort that out if you want.

Not writing anything off, and it’s not really different strokes is it?

We are talking about two machines competing against each other in exactly the same place in the market place, same power unit (turboed v1505 iirc)

Now, still looking for that video....found it!

That's a good video that, although he contradicts himself a bit saying that in the smaller brush stuff the Forst is quicker, but then immediately after says the TW is about the same!

Also felt like when the big logs went in at about 3:30, the TW took its time a bit but the Forst once the log was in proper it absolutely munched it.

Great video though - thanks for finding that @Mick Dempsey

Not saying you were writing it off, that was a reference to the OP who had seemed to discount Forst as an option right at the top of the thread.

And ok different strokes may be the wrong phrase - what I mean is the chap in your video thinks there's nothing in it, and Bobbies reckoned in the same test that there was a noticeable difference. Different opinions - suggests the OP should just see for himself which he likes.

You know there was a video on here with a guy using a 280 TW tracked against a TR8he said there was very little in it performance wise.

I have used them side by side and very different machines - forst tr8 was much more aggressive and powerful, plus threw the chip much better

Different strokes for different folks. Worth getting a demo at least of the TR8 before writing it off all together.

  12. Don't discount Forst - they've made a number of changes to the production in recent years and they're now very highly regarded. I'm not a guy who have ever chipped a branch in my life of course but I've funded stacks of them and I consistently hear very good things from the guys who do use them a lot. The XR8 is an incredible machine, but if you're concerned about getting into tight spots then take a look at a TR6 as well as I think its plenty powerful.

Although I haven't chipped a branch in my life I do know plenty about residual values and the most recent crops put out by Forst in the past few years are holding their value incredibly well. Popular opinion also seems to be that their aftercare is a bit better than other majors.

If you want a quote on funding for any of them give me a shout - new, used, any brand.

  13. Mascus is good for machinery - I'm not really impartial as I advertise with them for machinery finance.

You can sort by location to an extent - well rather you can filter out the ones that aren't in a particular location, but I think the most granular that goes to is just to restrict to ones in the UK.

Are you paying cash for whatever tractor you end up with? Most of the more reputable dealers on Mascus will deliver to you if you can get comfortable enough with buying one you've not seen in person...not sure how keen you are on that idea.
