Isuzu DPF issues were on earlier 2.5l engines. My understanding is that the newer 1.9l engines don't suffer the same, with usual proviso that they get a decent run occasionally to clear the system. Was also told they will be using a new 2.5l engine 'soon' with similar emissions & fuel consumption to the current engine. Have recently purchased a 2024 Dmax crewcab, so far so good.

To be honest I’d be looking at something around 2015/18 as I can’t afford a brand spanker, so I would probably fall into the age of issues? I know you can have the DPF removed and remapped, but could be an issue with MOT later down the line

  2. I’m looking for a pickup mewp to use on a utility contract, and it looks as though it’s basically a toss up between an Isuzu Dmax or Toyota Hilux mewp (don’t mention defenders!)

Has anyone here had experience running either long term? I have a Hilux tipper that is amazing, but the Isuzu trucks are cheaper for the same boom/miles. I’m aware that some Isuzus have DPF issues? Any input much appreciated!

  3. I can’t speak for the others, but my Hobbs has been a game changer. A bit more lifting capacity would be great, but it will lift small/medium branches and the pretension for bigger lumps makes a huge difference. Main plus is it’s super easy to explain to different ground staff, I’ve used mine with plenty of different groups, and within a few goes they’ve pretty well sussed it

  4. I swap between the 2 pretty regularly. Especially during takedowns, I find the faff of setting up a retrieval system for srt on a stem more hassle than swapping to ddrt and chucking a cambiam saver on. And for big/dieing trees when you can’t shoot straight for a tie in point and need to advance beyond your base anchor.

I’m sure most devices would do both fairly well, but something with a swivel that is made for both and not just a compromise does look pretty appealing.

I also think the older ZZ last a lot better, I had nearly 5 years from my old style one-newer style ones don’t seem to go much beyond 2. Although I’m using 11.5mm cougar blue predominantly so it’s the smaller end of the range.

Pretty much all ART devices these days have 10 year lifespan for hardwear and replaceable wear parts. I'd expect the same from this.

When I was climbing mostly MRT, I'd get 12-18 months from a ZZ before it was worn to the point of slippage.

That was climbing daily with a thin rope and pulley friction saver, so the ZZ links took pretty much all of the weight.

I thought that was pretty decent value.

I would agree completely-my latest ZZ is 12 months old and starting to show signs of slippage, £600 for 10 years use doesn’t sound like awful value. Especially if it’s good for changing between ddrt and srt. I don’t like the clunky-ness of the RR when you change to double rope.

The tree is next to a road, my only thought was some sort of reaction to grit salt?

  7. I didn’t realise it had such a hefty price tag! I would assume all the wearing parts would be replaceable similar to the rest of ART products? Wouldn’t be bad value if you get 10 years out of one, my ZZ doesn’t tend to get much beyond 2/3 years before they slip a lot.

  8. I have been asked to price a job in Kidderminster, involving the removal of 3 large wind blown Cedars, 2 still standing-but compromised Cedar, and 1 windblown spruce. The stems are approx 1m diameter and about 20m long. Is anyone on here in that area and interested in them? We are planning to winch them to the only access point, which is not ideal so may need a tractor & timber trailer.

Im not from the area and am pricing on behalf of a client, so I have no contacts close by to move this volume of timber, and it seems a shame to sell it for biomass! Any interest drop me a PM

    Cheers, Tom

  9. I’m after an MS201t/tc, as my 200t has just decided to spit its dummy right before we start back🙃

I’ve checked at arbtrader, would rather not gamble on eBay or Facebook if someone on here has one. If you do please send me a PM or reply on here, I’m Shropshire based but happy to travel within reason. Cheers

Anyone hate the Edelrid Talon? I guess Swinny would, as the spike looks pretty high...

I had a set for a short time, absolutely hated them. The gaff angle was so steep you had to be very far away from the stem for them to actually grip, and the length of the gaffs were either too long or short. Horses for courses but they aren’t my cup of tea

  11. I’ve recently bought a tracked TW230, and I’m looking at putting a tool box on the top of the hopper for a few tools, spares etc. I had a tool box on my previous chipper, but I’m struggling to find anything that looks well made that won’t get shaken to bits in 5 minutes.

I was going to mount it where the spare wheel would go on the road tow version, so plenty of room. Any suggestions welcome! Cheers

  12. I’ve got a set of these

    HONEYBROS.COM

Meindl Airstream Chainsaw Boots from the UK's leading Arborist supply company, Honey Brothers tree surgery and...

I’ve had them for 12 months, still keeping the water out (mostly) and the sole hasn’t started to peal yet.

They’re as light as you’ll get for a climbing boot with chainsaw protection, and I’ve been really impressed with how well they’ve lasted-confident I’ll get another winter out of them at least.

Scarfel lite’s last well (imo) but aren’t the most comfortable, plus they’re not light. I had the Andrews Cervino XP before these, nice and light but knackered within 6 months, never again!

  13. Possibly a bit far, but I used Kirkland Commercials in Stoke on Trent and they were brilliant. Good price and decent turn around time, plus a really good quality tipper body with lots of nice features.

Worth a look even if it’s just to compare prices?
