  1. I tie mine on a bungee strop and have it hanging off the basket. I wanted a holster/permanent scabbard but I think it would take up too much space.
  2. I know that McDonalds well...
  3. Dead Ash dismantle today covered in ivy. The top of the canopy was covered in wood worm like burrows possibly EAB? The tree was incredibly brittle until I got down to where the stem birfurcates at 7 meters. Anyways, 16 degrees today and it’s was lovely even though the hired in MEWP decided to break down and leave me in sky for half an hour...
  4. That looks like Yarmouth...
  5. Yeah it’s not often when I don’t enjoy my job and that day was certainly “one of those days” To be honest, I think I was a bit careless too just because I wanted it to end so badly but that’s just bad work ethic in this trade otherwise I wouldn’t of broken that BT line. I should’ve waited until the wind died down abit. I did manage to find a picture back when I was quoting for the job though which puts it in a better perspective. You can hardly see the BT pole.
  6. Today’s job can go straight to hell. Heavy reduction in heavy rain and pretty blustery also. BT pole with 16 lines and if you count 15...yeah...I fluffed one. I thought I was out of the danger zone when I cleared the pole but when I was bringing the top out on the other side, I threw branch down as a gust hit. It took 13 billion years to finish. I didn’t take a pic before I went up. Only when I messed up.
  7. We’re not climbing yet. We’ve started a new tree team within a big housing company. H&S don’t want any climbing until they have all the necessary H&S...things. So in the meantime...just cherrypickers, pole pruners and fells.
  8. This has helped me out massively! So good!
Matt was super helpful, friendly and a great contact. The site is easily accessible and just ideal for me.

  9. Cutting back a Walnut to some previous cut points today. I wish I owned one of them caravan easy movers as pushing the MEWP uphill through a tight arch/alley way wasn’t fun.
  10. Could you not sub contract some work out until the need to expand your team?
  11. I’m worried it’s all going to get dirty soon!
  12. Couple of trees with the same structural properties of cream crackers. I was mainly banksman today but still had fun...standing in rain...for hours.
  13. Has anyone found any really late nesting birds? I’ve just turned up to a site to reduce a large Laurel and have found fresh eggs with a Black Bird nearby giving us some stick. I’m now walking away from the job but I’m surprised to see an active nest this time of year. I’m guessing the hot late weather is to blame right?
  14. Suffolk has been insanely hot. I keep not being able to make it past midday.
  15. I work for a large social housing group. We had a huge survey taken out on everything we’re responsible for. I’m removing everything that poses a H&S risk or that will do in the near future. We don’t have much open land, just built up areas. But you are right too.
  16. Hi Emma, I have a campaign starting in September to remove 1130 dead trees in East Anglia. I could ask my boss if we are willing to take on some work experience if you’re interested? I can’t promise anything but any extra help would benefit me no end! Let me know. Jonny.
  17. Sorry for the confusion there. I didn’t want to make multiple threads as I’m not too hot on idents, otherwise I’ll be filling up the forum with really short threads. The White Poplar threw me as it seemed to be a different variation of leaf. That’s the first time I’ve seen one so palm shaped.
  18. Another one I can’t figure out. The bark is similar to a poplar. Anybody know this?
  19. Cheers @OakStag. My initial thought was some kind of Whitebeam but for how hairy it is...that what threw me off.
  20. This might be easy but I’m not the best at tree idents... I’ve suddenly came across loads in one area.
  21. oh God!!! Hahahaha
  22. Well this thread got weird! Haha. Erm...thanks?
  23. Cheers guys. Everybody was non the wiser. I was the only qualified operative there and the only one who knew that a mistake had been made. Its easy to move on and get back into the swing of things. i guess it just felt like being back at college with the assessor squinting his eyes at me haha.
  24. So today was my first day felling after a 7 month gap between jobs. The company I work for have just brought tree services in house (social housing). It was a big deal for them so they brought along H&S, Mid Management, my Manager, Marketing (for photos etc) and the yard manager. It’s safe to say I was pretty nervous. My first job was to remove a dead Whitebeam. It’s was pretty sizeable as far as Whitebeams go. Anyway, its a clear fell jobby with stacks of space around me. Happy days!!! Before I started, I removed some bark from the base as it was flaking and a lot of insects were present. The base seemed pretty good albeit some rot had set in. After all the other checks I started my cut. I was shaking pretty bad and had to take a moment to calm down. I’ve been working with trees for 6 years and I know what I’m doing but today I felt immense pressure. I went in at 20% to try and keep a hinge on some sap wood. Looked great, straight and tidy. When it came to the felling cut, I started to really become nervous. I ended up withdrawing the saw and I second guessed myself. I suddenly felt like I had no idea what I was doing. I ended up making a second felling cut at a 10% angle from left to right! The tree did fall where I wanted it to (thank god) but it did make me think. When the tree was on the ground I looked at the first cut I attempted, it would’ve been almost perfect. I have no idea why I ended up starting a new cut of which ended up being the mistake. Once my corporate audience left I cleared up the tree and I was totally fine. The pressure lifted and it was like I’d never had a gap from tree work. Today was a good lesson learnt. I obviously don’t cope as well as I thought when the pressure is on. I am far from being professional but I’m normally pretty cautious and sensible with good attention to detail. I’m kicking myself for messing up because that was potentially a dangerous cut.
