Planting trees shrubs in confined spaces with small amount of soil
JonnyRFT replied to Steve Bullman's topic in General chat
What about some Bay or Dogwood? -
I worked on new method statement pages today that’s directly linked to the risk assessment. It’ll take up to 6 operatives. I’ve populated each method statement with code that will source selected information from AFAG and FISA documents depending on the role of the operative. If you have a certain guide, British Standard or other source you adhere to then you will be able to reword how you carry your normal every day operations. I will leave some blank areas that can be populated manually that make the method statement site specific as it’s too time consuming writing out multiple scenarios to automate. EDIT: Just realised I didn’t bring my laptop home. I will upload tomorrow.

@Annierosy, I have a yard in Watton, Norfolk. I will have some fresh Willow and Poplar wood chip tomorrow if that’s of any help?
-
Nice one @Mark J.

I have built one where most of the method statement “blurb” for each operative is self generating depending on their duty on site and then there’s room for more site specific information to fill out manually. I’ll upload the template and some basic “blurb” when I’m back in the office.

Oh blimey, nearly 50 downloads already. Is it of any use? Does it work properly? Need anything adding?

I thought I'd upload this document I made to help any smaller outfits that find it difficult to keep on top of risk assessments, what tools they need for the job etc. This maybe a pointless task but if it helps at least one person then that's cool... So, the idea behind this risk assessment is to fill it out on a tablet, laptop or desktop computer when on (or after) your assessment. This way you know what tools you need for the job and what safety guidance documentation you should be aware of ie. AFAG, FISA, ICoP etc. I have already populated the "Coding Sheet" located on the 2nd tab at the bottom right of the Excel document with some limited info of which can all be changed to suit you. This sheet is totally open to change. What info I have on there already is just to show you what info is needed to populate the risk assessment. The idea behind this is so you only have to set this document up once. Once your coding sheet is populated with equipment you own, safety guides you adhere to etc. then filling out a site specific risk assessment becomes easier and all your left to do is upload your own signature and then keep everything stored on your hard drive or on the cloud. You can obviously print the document if you prefer keeping paper copies. You can right click the "Coding" tab and hide it too so when you export as a PDF when saving, the coding section will be hidden. You will need some knowledge on excel to use this but hopefully I've made it simple enough. I've protected the main worksheet so you can only select the cells that need information. Anyway, have a play. Hopefully it all works. Change what you need to change in the coding sheet but try not to move any parameters on the coding sheet either, otherwise the drop down menus and/or auto generation will not work. If you end up using this and want me to make any changes at all then just ask. If you have any criticism, ideas, add-ons, changes and/or advice then please voice it on here. I will update and upload new versions as and when needed. Blank Risk Assessment.xlsx

0 Degrees this morning in Norwich with a half decent thickness of frost on the Hilux. Couldn’t wind down the windows first thing as they had frozen shut. Nice blue sky now over in Watton, Norfolk. Very pleasant.

I’ve just noticed a lot of Ash not producing seed this year. Never thought about until now. Is this the case elsewhere in the country? I think every Ash I’ve inspected recently around East Anglia hasn’t produced anything yet. Could it be due to the general struggle it’s had this season or do they not always pollinate every year? The Ash in my garden literally only managed a handful of seed this year. (Please see photos) I don’t want to immediately jump to conclusions with regards to Chalara either as I wouldn’t want to overlook other factors such as the drought we had last year etc.

Got any hazel or willow coppice laying around? Could just peg it in place.

I agree with Steve. Silver Maple.

It’s definitely asbestos reinforced cement sheets. Be careful around this issue, even though it’s minor damage, if you’re working on more than 1m2 of white asbestos, then it becomes notifiable works. The whole thing will need replacing ideally with a plastic, polycarbonate material in terms of low cost alternatives. But, removing and disposing of asbestos waste will need a licensed contractor even when it’s encapsulated in cement. Basically, just don’t carry out too much work on the roof because it could come back and bite you. Even in its current state, you should have a minimum of Asbestos Awareness Cat A to be even modifying and repairing the damage.

Heavily reduced tree with only primary structure remaining. The whole tree shook substantially with every piece we removed. Once clear from the BT and ABC lines it was felled. My phone died early in the day so this is all I have.

If that part of the boundary is the responsibility of your friend then chances are, the tree will be also providing it’s obvious the tree is situated right on it. Ask for a TPO & Cons check like you would anyway from the LA. Since your friend has already spoken to the LA, it would be best to get confirmation through an email. Lastly, double check the LA GIS system (if that council has one) and/or get a Land Registry search for a small fee. It’s good to cover all bases as inferring boundary responsibilities is a risky move.

Not tree related but...Today’s job (so far) because the my partner has been trying to convince me for months to build a kitchen...turns out, I don’t like building kitchens. But once I’ve got my piece of Oak milled, dried and planed, it should look good as a work top.

For those with headphones on and now settling down to go to sleep...

Cheers Steve.

I better keep it as a back up otherwise I’d be saying “corrrr that’s thin ain’t it?!”

Learning all my lingo for my PTI in Feb

A couple of nice easy mornings. Highly attenuated Larch to remove, a couple of Scots to get naked. This morning was to remove a Pop from a new holiday let that has recently been built.
-
I have bought one recently. It should turn up the week after next once the conversion is complete. I’m going to get it weighed to see what payload I have left to play with. I reckon I’ll still need to reserve 300kg for 2 people and tools.

FORST ST6P stolen around 9pm in Swardeston, Norfolk area.
JonnyRFT replied to asillett79's topic in Stolen Equipment
My truck got broken into on the same day. I’m just in Norwich too. They’ve taken all my work clothes and my lid. Not looking forward to getting random phone calls from victims if they end up using the company clothes. I’ll keep an eye out for the Forst though. Scumbags -
Making it more educational would be nice. There’s so much knowledge that everyone can offer. The Facebook Arbtalk seems to be a mixture of penis comparison, stone throwing and fails which to be honest, is every other part of social media. I’m constantly trying to learn as I’m constantly making mistakes. I rely on this forum for criticism on my work and good feedback from fellow arbs too as I find both equally important. I’m now in the realms of mostly survey work and admin and it’s pretty new to me as it’s more in-depth. More discussions on detailed risk assessments, method statements and general job specifications could be nice as it’s something that constantly changes for me. Most of you guys are pretty damn good at the technical/physical side of arb but, maybe dedicating some threads on step by step guides, detailed assessments all the way to works being carried out, to future management etc would be of interest from at least me...

New Hilux- any DPF issues doing mainly short trips.
JonnyRFT replied to Matthew Storrs's topic in Arb-Trucks
Funnily, you drove past my house in Norwich on Friday towing the Bandit and then the MEWP truck followed. I did admire the Hilux. What was the cost if you don’t mind me asking?
