  1. 0 Degrees this morning in Norwich with a half decent thickness of frost on the Hilux. Couldn’t wind down the windows first thing as they had frozen shut. Nice blue sky now over in Watton, Norfolk. Very pleasant.
  2. I’ve just noticed a lot of Ash not producing seed this year. Never thought about until now. Is this the case elsewhere in the country? I think every Ash I’ve inspected recently around East Anglia hasn’t produced anything yet. Could it be due to the general struggle it’s had this season or do they not always pollinate every year? The Ash in my garden literally only managed a handful of seed this year. (Please see photos) I don’t want to immediately jump to conclusions with regards to Chalara either as I wouldn’t want to overlook other factors such as the drought we had last year etc.
  3. Got any hazel or willow coppice laying around? Could just peg it in place.
  4. It’s definitely asbestos reinforced cement sheets. Be careful around this issue, even though it’s minor damage, if you’re working on more than 1m2 of white asbestos, then it becomes notifiable works. The whole thing will need replacing ideally with a plastic, polycarbonate material in terms of low cost alternatives. But, removing and disposing of asbestos waste will need a licensed contractor even when it’s encapsulated in cement. Basically, just don’t carry out too much work on the roof because it could come back and bite you. Even in its current state, you should have a minimum of Asbestos Awareness Cat A to be even modifying and repairing the damage.
  5. Heavily reduced tree with only primary structure remaining. The whole tree shook substantially with every piece we removed. Once clear from the BT and ABC lines it was felled. My phone died early in the day so this is all I have.
  6. If that part of the boundary is the responsibility of your friend then chances are, the tree will be also providing it’s obvious the tree is situated right on it. Ask for a TPO & Cons check like you would anyway from the LA. Since your friend has already spoken to the LA, it would be best to get confirmation through an email. Lastly, double check the LA GIS system (if that council has one) and/or get a Land Registry search for a small fee. It’s good to cover all bases as inferring boundary responsibilities is a risky move.
  7. Not tree related but...Today’s job (so far) because the my partner has been trying to convince me for months to build a kitchen...turns out, I don’t like building kitchens. But once I’ve got my piece of Oak milled, dried and planed, it should look good as a work top.
  8. For those with headphones on and now settling down to go to sleep...
  9. I better keep it as a back up otherwise I’d be saying “corrrr that’s thin ain’t it?!”
  10. Learning all my lingo for my PTI in Feb
  11. A couple of nice easy mornings. Highly attenuated Larch to remove, a couple of Scots to get naked. This morning was to remove a Pop from a new holiday let that has recently been built.
  12. I have bought one recently. It should turn up the week after next once the conversion is complete. I’m going to get it weighed to see what payload I have left to play with. I reckon I’ll still need to reserve 300kg for 2 people and tools.
  13. My truck got broken into on the same day. I’m just in Norwich too. They’ve taken all my work clothes and my lid. Not looking forward to getting random phone calls from victims if they end up using the company clothes. I’ll keep an eye out for the Forst though. Scumbags
  14. Making it more educational would be nice. There’s so much knowledge that everyone can offer. The Facebook Arbtalk seems to be a mixture of penis comparison, stone throwing and fails which to be honest, is every other part of social media. I’m constantly trying to learn as I’m constantly making mistakes. I rely on this forum for criticism on my work and good feedback from fellow arbs too as I find both equally important. I’m now in the realms of mostly survey work and admin and it’s pretty new to me as it’s more in-depth. More discussions on detailed risk assessments, method statements and general job specifications could be nice as it’s something that constantly changes for me. Most of you guys are pretty damn good at the technical/physical side of arb but, maybe dedicating some threads on step by step guides, detailed assessments all the way to works being carried out, to future management etc would be of interest from at least me...
  15. Funnily, you drove past my house in Norwich on Friday towing the Bandit and then the MEWP truck followed. I did admire the Hilux. What was the cost if you don’t mind me asking?
  16. Ah well that’s really good to know. When I first got the truck prior to fleet being established I used it all the time. Driving past the DVLA weigh bridge on the A14 used to be a stressful time as I always though “ today is the day I get pulled over and weighed” due to looking way over weight.
  17. Yeah I was really impressed when you got your Hilux fitted. I just never get round to sorting it out.
  18. If the Hilux is still on the cards, you might want to see how (not) well the rear springs handle simple loads. An extra leaf spring on each side is definitely on the cards with mine. I use it mostly for towing the Avant and transporting tools and attachments etc so I don’t normally notice any sagging issues. But, then when the odd small job comes along of which the truck is suitable for, I get reminded how bad it deals with a load. Here’s a couple of pics from today. The last pic is how it looks empty.
  19. About ArcGIS | Mapping & Analytics Platform WWW.ESRI.COM ArcGIS provides contextual tools for mapping and spatial reasoning so you can explore data & share... Build Custom Business Apps | Microsoft PowerApps POWERAPPS.MICROSOFT.COM Transform your business by creating custom business apps with Microsoft PowerApps. Connect... ...these are the links to the platforms that support the app. I can use them independently as stand alone software but due to so much work demand within the housing sector I work in, I needed PowerApps to allow customers to request works or the call centre to book on their behalf. Then I can manage the work load and dispatch jobs on Workforce without any interference. These platforms can be used for anything and not just Tree Surgery. PowerApps was really nice to work with as I moved most of my “coding” from self populating excel spreadsheets that I had made into PowerApps. It was an easy transition. PowerApps is more versatile whereas Workforce is just handy for the GIS capabilities and storing all my PDF documents such as Risk Assessments, Method Statements and Job Specifications.
  20. The software I helped build for Flagship piggybacked off Esri Workforce and PowerApps. The two communicate with each other. PowerApps is where the initial content comes in and Workforce was the management of all the work. Might be worth a look.
  21. Well if you would’ve actually helped and travelled down from Scotland I may have got it done quicker!!! Bloody lazy Scotsmen.
  22. Cheers bud. It was near Swaffham, Norfolk.
  23. Row of Ash to remove. Absolute horrible job in the end due to heavy downpours each day. The poor customers garden got hit hard by the Avant and plant. I myself made a mistake felling one of the dead stems due to rushing/bad weather as the hinge snapped like a breadstick but luckily fell in the right(ish) direction. My climbers also had a rough time rigging all the overhanging limbs from other gardens full of sheds/greenhouses and Husky Dogs and the fact they didn’t want anything falling in their gardens anyway. Wasn’t a smooth job as first expected. A few rough cuts when the weather really turned. But many lessons learned. All that’s left is timber to collect. Last bit of brash to chip. I’ve ordered 2 tonne of stone for the customers driveway, top soil for the garden and grass seed of which we will return and make everything as good as possible when we’ve cleared the timber and debris.
