  1. I don't smoke any more. One in a blue moon. I've had 1 this month.
  2. Yeah but chainsaw trousers are cotton and nylon.. I reckon they'd go up. I never use Aspen. Way too expensive. I just hold my breath and hope for the best ;-)
  3. How can you not see an issue with it though? I know everyone does it but I'm amazed. If someone goes up you'll watch them burn to death potentially and there'd be nothing you could do about it. How many times I've spilled a bit of fuel on myself and minutes later I'm oblivious to it. I'm going to get people to read a risk assessment on it and sign that they wont smoke in trees and then it's up to them if they then want to smoke in trees.
  4. I don't have a no smoking rule per se. I just say not on site, not near or in the vehicle or whilst working. Have one whenever you like but walk out of sight and have it and down tools. I once subbed a tree surgeon and he was strolling along with a chainsaw in one hand and a lit cigarette in the other... I gave him what for... which he replied it's 2 stroke blah blah blah it wont combust.... I gave him a lot more what for along the lines of I'm not debating the logic of my rules or the logic of walking with fire in one hand and petrol in the other, it just isn't happening. So then the question was asked what about in the tree? And I nearly blew my top. You guys that allow smoking in trees are insane IMO. The thought of a man going up in flames cos he's spilt a bit of petrol on his trousers prior to lighting up and then slowly burning to death harnessed to a tree doesn't bare thinking about.
  5. Haha, good for you. I am not old enough to remember (Hence why I don't have loads of time) but I get the picture you're painting.
  6. Yep. He's been formally interviewed and everything recorded as much for his own future defence as anything. If they don't tape him and get all the details in a formal manner then they wont have evidence to support him if the surviving burglar makes some counter claim which I would guess is very possible. "Yes your honour we were burgling him but he caught us in the act. We said we were sorry and would wait for the police to arrest us but he just went crazy and just started stabbing my colleague to death in front of me. We posed no threat, blah blah blah"
  7. I considered it but I just don't have the time to build it. It's definitely within my skill set but I figured first time getting it perfect could take me a month and I just didn't have that amount of time. Had to dig out out for the base also by hand on this one so it was over a week just to get a purpose built one basically up and ready. Then another 20 hours shelving and 20 hours whacking cuprinol ducks back endlessly on it. BTW ducks back is the next best thing to pressure treatment but wont go on planed timber well. If you can be arsed with 3-4 coats it will go on and looks amazing IMO but it's a sod. This is what I bought http://www.shedswarehouse.com/id-2707-20ft_x_10ft_Deluxe_Tongue_and_Groove_Workshop_With_Double_Doors_Extra_Side_Door___5_Windows_(12mm_TandG_Floor_and_Roof).aspx
  8. Easy tiger. That's the point. The police probably are impressed with him, as am I. But, they have to go through the process. You can't end the life of a person and not expect to be questioned formally about it and you can't be formally questioned unless you are arrested. It's protocol, it's not personal.
  9. Yeah but you aren't allowed to run a business out of it and that's my point. At what point is your business being run out of your shed? Can I build gates in there to sell? Can I maintain tools and plant? Can the lads turn up in the morning and make coffee in there and move tools in and out of the van etc. etc. I'm just being thorough. If I had to take the shed down for whatever reason then I'd take the kick in the nuts and so be it. But for this prick... over my dead body is that shed coming down...
  10. Dunno where he lives. He's the landlord, not the occupier. I like the tenants. They think he's a class A wanker too!
  11. That's pretty good going. I usually lose in the end but I did win one once. I actually made her feel guilt. God that was a quality moment.
  12. You do if it is A- Above 2.5 meters in height and within 2 meters of a boundary or B- below 2.5 meters in height and within 2 meters of a boundary and takes up 50% or more of your garden space.
  13. We bicker continuously, we argue weekly, we fight bi - annually... roughly speaking.
  14. It very well might be getting one... and a small roll up mattress for my bi - annual fight with the Mrs
  15. Thanks. I love it. Cleaned the patio and such yesterday also and place looks spic and span. 100% he looked out the window and thought that all looks really nice, how can I be a pain in his balls... As I say, i had him pegged when he indicated his desire to have his previous tenants kids taken away from them. They certainly weren't the worlds best parents but the kids were not abused or neglected. Guy is a prize A ***t.
  16. I literally finished it yesterday. I.e finished painting it and fitting it out. The prick......
  17. The shed is a shed for storing shit in and yeah doing a bit of tool maintenance etcetera. Shed looks lovely but it takes up about 35-40% of the garden which is legal.
  18. Yeah I know..... I am gonna clean up. It's all kept under a massive tarpaulin on the driveway but still there are 100s of feather boards and timber and concrete posts and crap under there. Been meaning to sort it out... this is the impetus I needed. Ta for input.
  19. Oh sorry.. the property is owned outright.
  20. Well my main business is off site. I am a consultant for a Hong Kong based cosmetics company in the evenings which is all admin stuff but apart from what I get paid which is all declared for tax purposes they have no way of knowing how much time is spent on that work. It's all PC based anyhow. The heavy physical stuff is off site apart from occasionally wheeling in my stump grinder or cement mixer etc. I have a trailer attached to a van parked down the side of the house. Yes my drive is full of shit though but that can be cleared, and will be ASAP.
  21. Lousy but if someone's in your home at night without permission he had to use deadly force. I got attacked in a nightclub from front and rear by 2 guys and though it quite literally sickened me to do it I kicked 1 guy in the face after I put him down cos I was taking shots in the back of the head by the other. That is nothing compared to being in your home. You have to assume you are in imminent peril and more importantly so are your loved ones. Wont surprise me if he goes down in this current climate.
  22. So will I. Do you have a link please?
  23. I use it all the time. Takes about 1 minute to alter the tipping function. I have cages on it and if I have green I tip to the right as it suits the layout of my local recycling centre and also reduces it getting stuck if it's packed in tight cos of the cage. Tips absolutely perfectly at full capacity. If I'm loading with dirt though I always barrow 1 ft away from the front end and pile it up more middle in case it wont fully tip if occidentally go over weight. However, if that ever happened you could go side tip to shift weight off it and then rear tip or various options. 3 way tip was always just a potential convenience to me but has turned out to be used all the time in various ways. Solid bit of kit too. Some prick lowered my jockey wheel in the night one day and I drove 7 miles with it full down and it only bent ever so slightly.
  24. Got a slight issue guys. You may be able to advise. Basically I build a large 6m x 3m shed in my garden. It is legal in the sense that it is less than 50% of the garden (35% ish) and at or below 2.5 meters in height. I knew I'd get a problem from one person and low and behold, just as I'd put the last lick of paint on the shed he has come round to complain some 2 months after it has been built. He said he's complaining to the council at which point I said, good for you, that's all that's needed to discuss and closed the door on him. Some background on the smarmy prick. We fell out after he asked me to testify against his previous tenants in order for her to have her "children taken away from her". She was a battle axe but she was their mother and not evil so I told him to ***k himself, despite not liking her too much. He's really a piece of s**t so above all I want to come out of this on top on general principle. Anyhow, only thing he might have me on is running a business from the premises. I do obviously store some tools and machinery in the shed and I use my pc for quotes etcetera. are there any bases that I need to cover. I haven't registered the premises for running a business or anything like that. Most of my work is off site. 99%+ thanks in advance.
  25. Sorry for your loss. Mine hasn't got long. Had her since I was 24 and now I'm 40. She can still half see but is totally deaf and needs to be lifted in and out of vehicles and stairs. She's happy and not in pain it seems but I can't see here being around much longer. Really dreading the day.
