  1. Where are you?

    Tax tax tax

Stocks and shares ISA is probably a better bet than a pension, unless you can amass a pot of around the one to two million pounds. A small pension will just get you means tested out of any state benefits.
  3. Yeah, might change my mind when I simmer down, £30 a year after all.
  4. I cleared a fifteen acre field in two days ( about seven moles) Two years later all back. Luckily its lightish soil, so doesn't take too much off the haycutter blades.
  5. Nevertheless I might just bow out and let it go, I virtually only use it for moles now anyway. I gave up clays a good few years ago and grey squirrels just creates a swiftly filled vacuum. It is as you say just a form filling exercise, with no actual examination.
  6. Not quite sure where to post this but renewing my shotgun cert I find that I now need a medical pro forma from my local practice at £107 plus the cost of the cert. When did this come about?
  7. I use a similar device, it just has me and a shotgun attached to it.
  8. How long? How much room and what sort of area? As stated by others ,gangs are no good for anything over about 4" I had a five gang Lloyds setup which would just skid if the grass was too long, a topper can cut fairly short with some care.
  9. Getting free rides in the Canadian tanks, picking up shell, bomb and plane fragments, taking the POW's jugs of tea out to the fields and getting your shorts pulled down by the land girls.
  10. I was looking at that yesterday on my way to Robert Dyas.
  11. Probably best to take a pic of it cut up just in case.
  12. Gave Bill £50 for it, now belongs to a local football club.
  13. O.K. woke up Friday with the worst cold that I've had for ages, just surfaced today, belt fitted, adjustments made and bingo, perfect. So we now know something about 14" twin belt Webb Mowers. Cheers all. The Ransomes 36" Mastiff took a bit more work, requiring me to machine up a new inlet manifold and fit a Amal carb to get a reliable slow tickover for the centrifugal clutch to disengage. Openspaceman might know a little of the history of that one.
  14. Don't you start !!
  15. Thanks again Spud, With two belts, three cables and a hatfull of adjustments the permutations are endless. I am picking up my new belt tomorrow (I hope) so will keep you posted on progress. A landscape gardener friend of mine recons that I have the only two belt version in existence, because he's never come across one in the fifty odd years he's been in business. The reel drive now works correctly by the way.
  16. Thanks Mick, I think you are on the right track, see my reply to spud above.
  17. Cheers spud, bad description on my part. The problem is, getting the drive to the cylinder to disengage, the mower works fine, it's just that you cant stop. I have obtained a belt 1.5 cm longer at the enormous expense of £2-29 and will try that.
  18. Cheers Gareth, There are two belts, the roller drive belt is 63 cm long and its this one that is probably incorrect. My local belt and bearing supplier can do these belts in 1cm increments so I might try one a little longer, they are in fact only a few pounds each. Haven't found any data plates so far just the model number. Might try the oldlawnmower club, but a quick look didn't turn up anything useful.
  19. Hi, Nice little 14" Webb mower came my way, problem being unable to free the roller drive. I have tried all the available adjustments to no avail, and all seems correctly assembled. The only conclusion that I have been able to arrive at, is that the incorrect belt has been fitted at some time. I have been unable to find any information on this model ( Model No.277 2249) so any help would be welcome, A clean up of the points and carb and it starts and runs like new, I don't think that it has seen much use. The cutter system works sort of o.k. Mower is well built with a large grassbox so would be a handy addition to my fleet.
  20. Did you ever get involved with moving the mobile milking parlour from Mayford water meadows to the Egley road? Fun fun fun.
  21. Southern Sheetings website, all the info on there.
  22. I'd feel safer with some plastic over the viewing ports.
  23. Looking back at the original post, I would say that an 18" trench 3' deep at 13' from the tree should be ok.
  24. What is the invert depth below ground level where you will be passing the trees? as its a 6" pipe are you serving more than one property?
  25. Eggs has asked the right question, discharge to a watercourse or finger drain soakaway. If its finger drain then bite the bullet and the trees need to go. I've just spent £13000 plus dancing round the regs updating my system and that's discharge to watercourse.
