Hi CJM, It seems to have gone back to what it was pre COVID. April/May were always our quietest months but always picked up later in the summer. There is still plenty of work out there you've just got to be pro-active to get it. Do not sit and wait for the phone to ring. Two tips. 1, What marketing was working this time last year? Double down on that in lean times. 2, Contact all clients that spent this time last year by email or phone. Lastly if still quiet trim the fat of the business and stay lean until it picks back up Hope that helps

Subbing to larger companies definitely works in the early days. The main thing to do if its price work is track how much you are making each day then review weekly and make sure the average is good. Some days you could make £1500 but if most days you are 300-400 then that could average out really low. No one should be working for less than £650 a day for a two man team and should be aiming for £700-800 a day. The main thing is as you grow and stop subbing for the larger firms do not try and poach their work you never know when you will need work again in the future or support. Never bite the hand that feeds you this industry is small and word gets about. Apart from that if it makes money then go for it.

Hi Beechhunter, A couple of things that we have done in the past when looking for domestic clients. Sign written boards outside whilst doing the job also could leave for a week before collecting if local. Leaflets - When on site leaflet drop other houses on the road (Obviously not door knocking). Diarise any jobs like hedge trimming that would be done yearly and contact when round the time to re visit. Use mail chimp to email previous customers with company newsletter regularly. Local area Facebook groups are good place to keep an eye on when people are looking for trades. We used to have great success from Checkatrade years ago but seems but as it got more popular less leads came through so we left. Hope that helps.

Hi Stuart, We aim for 1k a day min for a 3 man team sometimes more depending on job/client. 260K A year. Our turn over is usually around 1.5 Million for 5-6 teams. Yes management team is 2 admin that deal with admin, HR, H&S, Finance, Customer service, audits etc... 2 managers that go out quoting and organise teams/work. One of them also deals with kit we use a mobile mechanic and local company to repair kit. The teams are expected to look after kit and repair small stuff like chain catchers, chains, filters etc.. If anything breaks they fill out a form on the tablet that notifies the management team so it can be dealt with. Hope this helps. Regards Henri

Hi Ty, I can tell you what profit we are running on but everyone will be different as it depends on what running costs you have in your business, structure, area etc.. We run 6 - 3 man teams at 15% net profit with 2 managers/surveyors, office manager and administrator. But that could be higher if I worked in the business instead of one of the managers. My opinion would be to aim for 15-30% net profit. Hope that helps.
