Ageing Hunter 6 double sided Multifuel stove
Steven P replied to Cliffclop's topic in Log burning stoves and fireplaces
So the Hunter 6 - double sided stove will be more than 5kw, it is worth checking that there is plenty of ventilation for it (if it has been used successfully over the last 17 years and had some good consistent fires, in a variety of outdoor weather conditions then I suspect that there is plenty of ventilation for it). No real reason to replace it - it is a secondary heat source and even if modern stoves are more efficient replacing it you'd have to factor how much the wood costs against any savings over time. Maybe at the moment it will be more economical to leave it in place and consider replacement in a few years if the oil prices rise. 17 years is getting old for the flu I think. I'd suggest you call your sweep who can inspect and advise on the condition of it. If you call the sweep this side of the Autumn many will also have a side line installing liners over the summer - no chance of getting it changed past September, it is sweeping season, too busy. A £50 to £100 cost now - that you'd more than likely be spending anyway - might allow you peace of mind to save for and replace in a couple of years time, or it will highlight a problem that needs attention a bit sooner. A good sweep would be advising this before supplying a certificate of cleaning if there are problems - whatever it is called. -
Jean Carrol..... (as a latest proven, in a court of law) However in a lot of these cases, no smoke without fire!

you could look at it, what does it cost? Working backwards, loading and transport to you, say £25 splitting, say £25 Chopping to length £25 loading / unloading from site to yard £25 Drying, storing, profit margin to make up 'ready to burn' cost. Then just add up how much processing went on to get what you get. Approx costs, may vary with area,

Pretty much sums it up. Trump is not a nice man - no discussions needed really - and what goes on in his head on a personal level comes out as policies to influence millions - where women are concerned no respect, racist and intolerant of others. Add to that he is vengeful and that will show if he comes to power. His record might be he want to have tea in Korea, China and Russia, came back loved up with their leaders and international politics, Russia invaded Ukraine, China is posturing even more so against Taiwan, and North Korea are still on target to build hypersonic nuclear weapons Biden is not clean as a whistle either - though my preference 4 years ago of the 2 men - age goes against him and competence slips with that - and eventually did the right thing to stand aside, his son the coke addict... but Biden didn't sell him the drugs.. is still a bit of a liability - what is discussed at the dinner table might not remain a state secret. Morally I think Biden has the upper hand with respect for the peoples he presides over. As far as I can tell internationally apart from liking the Irish and not the British as much Bidens visits don't lead me thinking to buy a nuclear fall out shelter.... Harris - not a huge amount in the news about here like is was with Trump or Biden, suspect she will be quietly competent with what she does. Neither of the men are the best but Biden outstrips Trump as a person in my views
-
What gets me with that comment of his, he is quite happy to let everyone die in a war on someone elses watch - he could have picked up the phone to Biden and said "I can end this in 24 hours, let me talk to him"... but he didn't... and the soldiers died...

Not watched the full clip properly but it looks a bit odd. From a first look the police officer might have over reacted a touch.... There is more to this behind the scenes I think. The police officer had had a few jobs recently and moved from one to another (unexplained as why so far). Boiling pot of water a bit odd, and of course "In the name of Jesus".... a religious nut too (I don't get on with gods too well, mutual understanding - I do my thing, they do theirs).

For the smaller cable, 1.5mm it is probably rated at or around 13A, with a bit of luck the fuse or breaker will trip before the cable is damaged. It might, it might not. If you have a longer thinner cable it will draw more current to supply the same power at the furthest end, and if you have the cable coiled up it suffers more inductance (like resistance). So better to use a 2.5m cable and fully uncoiled. Note that the 13A fuse is there to protect the cables and installation till the next level of protection - if any part of the total system can't take 13A that is where you will get problems. I'm assuming reading this that the motor on the splitter only works as the piston is moving? It doesn't operate constantly at a lower power to charge an accumulator of some sort, so lots of higher amp starts but some time in between for the cables to cool between logs. Lower powered or slow to compensate I think

Depends who you ask, I suspect from Trump the answer will appear to me to be "Everyone and for everything". Suspect there will be a strict pecking order, Biden might be up there for the audacity to win an election fairly, the various judges ruling in the sex assault cases will be moved on, New York City bringing court cases and bigly big fines. Suspect they will be in the top 5. Suspect Russia for invading Ukraine or Gaza / Israel will be a lot lower down on the 'list'

For long grass and this is not the answer, my cheap (£100) B&Q rotary mower special will go through most stuff... however it is domesticated, standard width. For very long grass might need to cut it back first then maintain it with a faster larger cylinder mower. Oh, B&Q special will fire anything it finds out and at ankle height, generally aiming between the back wheels... and straight at me.

Rainbow painted guns? Gun pride - yes, could be money in that

We are all older than we want to admit though!

This is true - said nothing about physical attacks and assaults (which is what they are, swept under the carpet often because 'they're just kids' ). often though the threats are not physical, it is the constant incessant verbals - knocks a childs confidence, infers a threat of violence ("Wait till I see you out of school") and so on. A one off and where deserved verbal repost, yup, but that isn't bullying as such - talking here the daily abuse, every day, which is the problem,
-
Taking the piss - where deserved and banter is one thing, fair and even and to all, but a systematic single out of an individual to be the butt of all banter, all piss takes isn't. If your children came in and told you they didn't want to go to school any more because another child or group was bullying them, what would you do? Force the child to school with no changes made because 'it is good for them to suffer' yet knowing that your child sitting in fear in the class room is never going to bring the best out of them, they'll never fulfil their potential? But life lesson learnt. (As an edit, and a side comment, there is millions spent every year on child mental health professionals dealing with exactly this - the school refusers because of bullying, that is millions that could be spent on proper doctors and nurses!)
-
I wonder why male suicide is a lot higher than women and why they don't open up about mental health issues. Can't be anything to do with 'manning up' and taking that abuse that comes with it? In a world of hard manual labour there was a certain necessity to create 'hard' boys and young adults regardless of mental health. Technology and machinery has all but eliminated manual labour (current forum excepted - I can appreciate the irony of me saying this here), there is no need to bully and belittle in Schools - or the workplace and wider society - to create tough boys - it does no one any good and is a detriment to todays society I think.

Perperator? Yes, there was one I don't do emojis much but Motive ? Is that a man taking a dump? Motive: Needed a shit Penalty? Holiday to Bahamas? However flying around the area on street view website, it looks quite affluent, suspect that the police might actually be telling the truth here and it was a 'mental issue' rather than any other motivation.
-
Suspect a lot are more than they'd publicly admit to
-
however it is limited in its scope - just for the issues that concern the participants, to improve their lives (or as they might put it, some equality)?

The first picture was along the lines of anger as police officers use holidays to go to Pride marches, which was my comment and amusement. Like any job, if they are required to attend as part of their duties then they should be paid to do so. I suspect that the images before and outrage headlines (Daily Mail and Anglican Times.... both rational publications? No Bias) hide a much wider story, set of issue and the possibility that the police officers photographed were not on duty but attending as a part of their gay sports and social scene. (Appreciating ArbTalkers are often small outfits - in larger organisations often theres organised sports and social activities and funds for all interests, whether it is sporting events (maybe a cycle or running race), or social (such as a bowling night out) - could be that the police in the photos are there as a part of their social scene and wearing their 'social' outfits - companies I have worked for often put their branding on supplied clothes as a part of sports and social funds. Who know without knowing and reading in depth the full story).

No back peddling at all. Refer to my original comment, I suspect that your mind is making me out to be something I am not... again.... And then refer to my third comment, and the fourth, and this, the 5th comment where I will question again what is the problem with police officers using their allocated time off to do as they want? Or, is it just the gay ones doing what they want with their time off that is the problem. Entirely consistent. You are trying to make an argument out of nothing here my friend. Not happening. ('The article was clear right from the get go'... would be really handy if you could post the links to the articles instead of an image, everyone else manages to)

No not ignoring that completely but like you say, Biden is out the race now. Kamala or Trump are their choices. Biden is senile, rightly so is being retired, I like the Thunderbirds analogy. A son who is an addict perhaps indicates parents who failed, perhaps it doesn't, but I don't think there is any suggestions that Joe Biden was his dealer or got him addicted in the first place. Trump is always the bad man... he isn't a good man... given the choices of 4 years ago, I think they made the right one, I don't think Trump is selfless enough to lead a nation - all self serving. Doesn't mean to say that anyone who reaches the top of any large organisation is blameless in everything - there has to be some ruthlessness as they go. So no, Trump isn't the only rotten apple to reach the top in any political arena.
-
I don't have a strong opinion either way, but the first image posted here was the outrage that police officers were having holidays and using that holiday time to take part in the pride marches. The questions being are police officers allowed to have holidays and can they do what they want with that time off (within the boundaries of societies norms and rules of course). Plenty of police for example will go to a football match in their time off (and in Glasgow, that can get quite political, similarly in cities such as Liverpool or London but not quite so intense), large crowds and with an official police presence, some undercover in the crowd 'enjoying' the game as a part of their duties. You can draw a comparison. In single team cities I'd be betting that some of the official police presence enjoy watching the game, get paid for it. I'd also bet that in the pride marches if there was illegal activity the police on duty would deal with the situation there and then, they are still on duty, still working, same as if they were policing a football game.
-
Yes, time off... holiday... are you saying that the police shouldn't have time off? Or is it just the gay police officers who shouldn't have time off?
-
Can I do some Trump bashing? My opinion is he is too old and should be retired, but too self serving to serve a nation (the racism, bigotry, homophobia, sexism, and all the rest can wait till another time). Curious his pal Russel Brand is up there in the photo.... but curious how Trump enjoys the company of those whose sex lives are 'dubious' - the likes of Brand and Epstein (did anyone ever forget the "Grab them" 'locker room talk' where Trump bragged of sexual assaults, or his habit of walking into the Miss Universe changing rooms... some of the girls were as young as 15 at the time). If I get time one day it would be enlightening to plot Trump and his closest pals and which ones have a chequered past (Gulliano - his best lawyer - yup, claims against him, his current lawyer apologised for a sexual assault that he definitely 'didn't commit') Anyway 'friends like these' I suppose is not his base desires, but more a desire to appear competent - more competent than those around him.
-
So if there was a football match attended by a similar number of people, or perhaps in Glasgow one of the orange walks or a similar parade you'd expect no policing there either? .. or is it just the gays part that is offending you greatly?
-
I love that "officers have been allowed to take time off"... bring back the Victorian age when Holidays were unknown and time off was a Sunday morning to go to church... ha! Allowed to choose to take time off, what next, women with the vote?
