I don't know the outcome of any court cases from either sets of riots - till we do - and it won't be for a while yet - how can we judge if the law has been applied equally or not? The police system takes a while to gather all the evidence, without that court cases will fail. I suspect that we will find the laws will be applied equally to all. You might know differently of course, I suspect you are just trying to create a divisive argument (again) to further your biased view of the world

Sounds like you are defending them here. What happened to 7 pages back when you were condoning these riots (errr... protests?) 100%... and now almost defending them?
-
Remember of course that the Leeds rioters were protesting about an issue that was happening in their own community. They weren't attacking the local police about an issue that happened 100 miles away. If you look at the video feeds of the 'riots' you'll notice that the trouble, the rioters, were about 30 to 40 people, the majority of the crowd were wandering about filming everything on their phones. You'd also be noticing the number of women with very young children in the crowds - hardly a scary riot then was it? Following up on this, arrests have been made and the due process is happening. How many flag flying "Englishmen" would you say were 'protesting' this week (when I say protesting, I mean attacking the police with rocks and bricks), was it more or less than the 30 or 40 in Leeds?

You forget that they also burnt their library. Learning, reading, understanding was never a friend of the right and their cheerleaders. Do as we say blindly. The library is a kind of metaphor for that.

So a lot of riots in the name of 3 murdered girls in Southport, hundreds of police officers injured, many hospitalised. I wonder when an "eye for an eye" that they 'eye' becomes so blinded by hatred that any kind of rational thought is abandoned. I wouldn't be surprised if the eye for an eye attitude being displayed results in a police officer being killed. Pure thuggery carried out and supported by the idiots who allow themselves to be blinded by the right wing press, and their cheerleaders Robinson and Farage.
-
Got to give them the opportunities - they might hate it, it is not for them, they might love it... but you never know till they try
-
Apparently though, only if the knife crime is committed by the correct tone of skin or religion, that committed by white Christians is often passed by without a mention. Wonder why that is?
-
I think you'll find I have been very consistent with what I have commented on. The Southport incident and subsequent trouble is an area I am personally invested in, have an interest in, and so feel it is my place to comment. Leeds, Manchester, Cardiff, and so on, I have no personal links to these, it is not my place to comment, I would just be adding to the general background noise if I did but adding nothing to the conversation. I am assuming that you are similar with no strong links to any of the places and yet pick and choose which ones to bring to the forum based on religion or colour of the criminals involved.
-
It is more what you didn't say that is telling. You mentioned and linked to pieces about the Leeds riots (the Roma population), not a peep about Southport, London or Hartlepool this week (White British people), stabbing in Kent (by a Black man), not a peep about the Welsh school girl who went a bit stabby (a white girl). The links and posts you comment on are all following your agenda that 'Jolly foreigner' is bad, White British is good. Even better if jolly foreigner is also not Christian. Not what you say, what you don't say. Why is that?
-
So... In Leeds the Police were attacked by the Roma community doing their jobs. In Southport the Police were attacked doing their jobs. You are outraged by the attack on the police in Leeds, but not Southport. Why is that?
-
Ahh so in 3 posts, the members have gone from discussing an evolving tragedy to bashing the jolly foreigner. Why would that be? Almost as if any opportunity there is to have a go, one of you does.... why would that be? Yes, walking distance of Banks, snap, I did once, a right bastion of seething Muslim hatred that place (must be where that army of "Fighting age young men" are living... or about 100 out of 4000 people are 'not white'). Banks is a commuter town on the outskirts of one of the nicest towns around Liverpool, it has a farming community, it is a nice place. It is not where religious hatred festers. Southport - where the stabbing happened is a nice town - even the rough parts would be considered posh in some of the neighbouring towns. Rumour mongering leads us to the scenes we saw last night where 50 police officers were injured in an effort to extract some sort of vengeance against a mosque, and again tonight in London and weirdly Hartlepool. We'll expect the same police officers tomorrow to go out house to house enquiry's to gather evidence of what happened. Even the Telegraph whose partial reason for existing these days is to enable the far right are at great pains to “ urge people not to speculate on details of the incident while the investigation is ongoing.”... from the Telegraph who I'd suspect would also support sinking asylum seekers in the channel, they are that chilled with everything. There is more to this story, I'd expect that the lads lawyers will use "Terrorism" as a reason if it gets a lighter sentence or better jail conditions, but this was nothing to do with race or religion and to be honest those who try to make political gains from it deserve nothing from this country.

Sycamore trees near an old house.
Steven P replied to Suvie's question in Homeowners Tree Advice Forum
Yup, ask the neighbour to remove the tree as soon as they can or ask if you can do so. Might need digging out or checking every so often that it hasn't started growing back again. Not sure if the little tree would have caused that crack, might be another cause to investigate. -
That was one of the big blocks in Glasgow - loads of old city centre office buildings, that could be converted to flats.. but too expensive to retain the fronts so have sat rotting for many years. I guess the same all over, clever architects could make cities and towns interesting to look at but rarely do, build houses that will be valued in 100 years time
-
Yes, better insulated houses would be a bonus - working from the bottom upwards for subsidies I think (the most benefits first), maybe in the form of interest free loans for everyone. Something to be said for replacing older housing in towns to meet more modern standards and requirements. Could be a winter fuel + insulation combined with the same assessment? I'm bitter here because when the last scheme came out I'd just upgraded the loft insulation (couple of hundred ££), and then was told couldn't do underfloor insulation on the scheme (not enough access space by a couple of ") so did that myself (another couple of hundred ££)... but both jobs easily done with limited DIY skills.
-
Yes, weighting it towards those who need it the most. I think those at the cut off point will lose out, earn £100 a year less and you get it, £100 more and you don't type of thing which is a good argument for a lot of benefits reducing on a sliding scale.

If you get pension credits you will be OK, otherwise yes, dropping it.

Just while I am waiting for the carrots to cook (late dinner today). 'Screen shots' via MS Paint. Simples.

Hold on... how did I get into this conversation? Without any fixation and all?
-
UK national debt - the public purse - was increased by about 17% due to Covid... the increase from about 65% of GDP to 100% of GDP is only half related to that, the rest is the Tory party financial management. The last Labour administration ended with us owing roughly the same as when it had started (that was Tony Blair and Gordon Browns mis management). Most (actually since there has been no budget.. all ) of this years tax rises have been set by the outgoing Tory party with future implementation dates.

Nice. I'd buy a jumper just in case.

Ageing Hunter 6 double sided Multifuel stove
Steven P replied to Cliffclop's topic in Log burning stoves and fireplaces
So the Hunter 6 - double sided stove will be more than 5kw, it is worth checking that there is plenty of ventilation for it (if it has been used successfully over the last 17 years and had some good consistent fires, in a variety of outdoor weather conditions then I suspect that there is plenty of ventilation for it). No real reason to replace it - it is a secondary heat source and even if modern stoves are more efficient replacing it you'd have to factor how much the wood costs against any savings over time. Maybe at the moment it will be more economical to leave it in place and consider replacement in a few years if the oil prices rise. 17 years is getting old for the flu I think. I'd suggest you call your sweep who can inspect and advise on the condition of it. If you call the sweep this side of the Autumn many will also have a side line installing liners over the summer - no chance of getting it changed past September, it is sweeping season, too busy. A £50 to £100 cost now - that you'd more than likely be spending anyway - might allow you peace of mind to save for and replace in a couple of years time, or it will highlight a problem that needs attention a bit sooner. A good sweep would be advising this before supplying a certificate of cleaning if there are problems - whatever it is called. -
Jean Carrol..... (as a latest proven, in a court of law) However in a lot of these cases, no smoke without fire!
-
you could look at it, what does it cost? Working backwards, loading and transport to you, say £25 splitting, say £25 Chopping to length £25 loading / unloading from site to yard £25 Drying, storing, profit margin to make up 'ready to burn' cost. Then just add up how much processing went on to get what you get. Approx costs, may vary with area,

Pretty much sums it up. Trump is not a nice man - no discussions needed really - and what goes on in his head on a personal level comes out as policies to influence millions - where women are concerned no respect, racist and intolerant of others. Add to that he is vengeful and that will show if he comes to power. His record might be he want to have tea in Korea, China and Russia, came back loved up with their leaders and international politics, Russia invaded Ukraine, China is posturing even more so against Taiwan, and North Korea are still on target to build hypersonic nuclear weapons Biden is not clean as a whistle either - though my preference 4 years ago of the 2 men - age goes against him and competence slips with that - and eventually did the right thing to stand aside, his son the coke addict... but Biden didn't sell him the drugs.. is still a bit of a liability - what is discussed at the dinner table might not remain a state secret. Morally I think Biden has the upper hand with respect for the peoples he presides over. As far as I can tell internationally apart from liking the Irish and not the British as much Bidens visits don't lead me thinking to buy a nuclear fall out shelter.... Harris - not a huge amount in the news about here like is was with Trump or Biden, suspect she will be quietly competent with what she does. Neither of the men are the best but Biden outstrips Trump as a person in my views
-
What gets me with that comment of his, he is quite happy to let everyone die in a war on someone elses watch - he could have picked up the phone to Biden and said "I can end this in 24 hours, let me talk to him"... but he didn't... and the soldiers died...
