  1. We probably read different slants on the news. Canada didn't roll over, they cancelled a starlink project and stuck signs in all the shops "buy Canadian" while removing US products... and Trump paused the tariffs with no gain for himself. Mexico just confirmed 10,000 troops will be sent - as agreed with the Biden administration and the tariffs were dropped. Not really bending over, but he got the publicity out of it?
  2. Will their software be imported from Mexico or sent out from within the US and so not subjected to tariffs?
  3. Hypothetical at the moment, I am not going to be convinced. Maybe have to look back a few years time to see what happens.
  4. That's not my point, aware of restrictions of who can manufacture what and were. Point being why are you accepting potential tariffs on Mexican goods (I know they've been dropped, but you understand the example), and yet don't appear to be acepting tariffs on UK manufactured goods... surely that tool is to get US manufacturing industry manufacturing more? It is either going to work... for all sectors...or it is not.
  5. This is where a confusion in tariffs happens. Manufacturers don't and often can't drop their prices, what they sell a product for out of the factory door won't change, their profit magin will be the same. Add a tariff in and the purchaser simply pays more. Deer for example will still be profitable. If you are talking the likes of large agricultural machinery there isn't a lot of choice, got to buy Deer really. Same with a lot of foods, the US don't produce the quantities required... there will be imports, no choice, the prices rise on imports. Home grown manufacturers see, say Mexican tomatoes prices rise 25%... and still get bought...guess what they are going to do? cannot legislate old fashioned greed and price rises.
  6. So am I reading this right, manufacturing abroad doesn't benefit the American people unless it is manufactured abroad in the UK? How does that happen?
  7. That would be an economic decision then? Biden would similarly have been slated if he had put in place policies to sacrifice wage growth for the benefit of cheaper manufacturing wouldn't he? If these companies move back to the US their prices will have to rise, if they get hit with tariffs their prices will rise. The American public would see price rises... Didn't Trump campaign that he'd lower prices immediately - eggs quoted but it was almost everything. Can't see that happening with tariffs being added in, which goes back to him bluffing, blatantly go back on an election pledge or be seen to do a deal, a great deal the likes of which has never been seen before.. but which gets him what he originally wanted. Do you honestly think he cares much car manufacturers in Mexico more than the public perception and his approval rating? Car manufacturing will stay in Mexico, tariffs will be dropped, headlines of Mexico sending 100,00 troops to the border, Trump gets the kudos.
  8. Look at Mexico, played by the Trump play book: Rich and powerful man threatens the smaller man with bigly problems / financial issues Little man rolls over and negotiates Trump plays his trump card (I know, I know) and gets what he wanted in the first place. Bigly problems don't happen. Classic call my bluff. In Mexico: Bigly threatening tariffs even if they will hurt the US, bluff for a week or so. Mexico phones. Tariffs 'postponed' (the threat is still there for his next whim) Mexico sends 100,000 national guard to the border to stop drugs and immigrants. Trump gets what he wanted. Very rare for anyone to call his bluff, though he might be pushing it a bit too far with the rest of the world leaders. Some push back in Ontario where they have cancelled the contract with the first besties starlink in response to tariffs... that isn't in the play book, you're meant to roll over before you can act
  9. If it was Silver Birch I'd be splitting that half way through the pile to be split.. and then it sits nice in the middle of the stack, off the ground but also a bit sheltered. One year I was getting as load of bark falling off, the makes an excellent roof as it dries.. none of the problems with tarps, tin, no construction to make a roof. I'm not in the wettest part of the UK but nearly, and my wood dries fine. If you have the option, stak on the sunny side of your area and were the wind can whistle through it
  10. If it is for next winter or afterwards, leave it open to the elements, don't make life harder than you need. Move somewhere covered the year the end of September before you want to use it - after a dry few days of course
  11. BigJ, Glasgow wasn't mining, it is more heavy industrial with a healthy dose of German bombs in WW2 (relevant since that dictates some of the new schemes (housing estates) that were thrown up with poorer planning than what came afterwards... and suitable social problems, many of these schemes with a 50 year life are still existing.. including a couple of the new towns dotted about). The traditionally rougher areas - similar to the Scottish mining towns - are where these industries have moved on - and are also traditionally 'Scots' who live there - the whites - Govan, The Gorbals, Easterhouse and so on. My side of town there are 2 'Asian' areas - I'll do my run commute through both happily - one is rougher than the other, but that is not a factor of race, it is a factor of wealth - the poorer one is tougher. But that is the same through the city as well (n fact, all cities, the poorer areas are the tougher ones regardless of who lives there).
  12. Without a bit of investigation as to the cause it is a bit soo to blame the tree. It might be settling of the house, poor construction... but also the builders not taking account of the prevailing ground conditions... such as local trees. Gut feeling would be the house builder for not noticing trees next door. Imagine if you are the neighbour, happily planted some trees for amenity, 15 years later a house is built, at 20 years the new owners say "your trees are destroying my house"... counter argument... your new house is destroying my existing trees. You're going to get asked for more details - a rough site plan (or a screen shot from a satellite imaging site), distances, size and type of trees and so on, also where are you roughly and what type of soil is under the house
  13. Is serving in the armed forces a pre-requisite to doing a good job by the way? Or would dodging out of it, say with a sore foot limit your abilities in any way?
  14. I was leaving this one for the evening but think we discussed this before and the conclusion was Trump is a bad man however the US public didn't have much choice in his presidency. Not everyone on this thread can see that and still idolise him with all his warts.
  15. For the OP... you will always get doubters wherever you are. OK some might question how you afforded the courses... but that is irrelevant really, done the courses, spent your money and now onto a career. Might be some jealousy in there that others had to work for years in the arb trade to get to where you are, but end of the day, 6 years working saving for the future shows a determined mind... If Huddersfield is anything like around here, there will be a lot of tree surgeons out there. Give the phone book a good work out, start calling and introducing yourself. If the doubters are right and you are 'drug fuelled' or whatever it was, you'll be found out and it will be a waste of money and training time... however it doesn't sound that way, and someone is going to get a determined worker. But advice is phone around, see who is out there, perhaps follow up with an e-mail - thanking them for taking your call, remind them who you are and add in your contact details (phone and e-mail is all you need really). Similar thing, if you are out and about you might see someone working.. a quick word can get results too. Good luck, always good to see someone determined to make a go at it
  16. See your continuous posting with your political and racist agendas I never believe in a screen shot containing anything political that that is there by accident. Firmly believe that you will be making a point about Reeves and the Barclays app somehow being linked. Think about that. Your continuous political posts... the fact that your only topic of conversation are political posts... means that whenever you post something else, you are not taken seriously about it. There was a fable, quite famous. Make yourself a cocoa and sit comfortably. Once there was a shepherd boy watching his sheep, a bit bored, ran to the village shouting there was a wolf attacking the sheep, the villagers ran up the hill only to find out there was no wolf. The boy kept doing this till the villagers no longer responded. The day there was actually a wolf, the boy ran down the hill, no one believed the boy, no on came to help, and the sheep were eaten. Now flip that around a bit. Once there was a JohnsonD posting on the internet forums. A bit bored he screen shot a political post, and he got a response. He posted another and another (in all the threads, ever by the way), and got a response till the other members got bored of responding to the political story itself, only to the fact JohnsonD was spamming the site. Then one day there was actually a real story he commented on, no one believed JohnsonD that this was a real story and not another political comment, and no one took any notice. See the likeness?
  17. Car load for £20 is probably OK.. but might be room to negotiate there for a better deal. If you're going back might be selective what you pick up. Think there is some cherry in the second set of pics (smoother skin, darker colour), that is usually OK, Wouldn't bother with the silver birch (not a lot of 'wood' and quite fussy when kept damp - will fall apart) Green smooth bark - not sure what it is - growth rings look far apart so not so dense, might not bother paying for that one If you have time to root about what to pick, grab any with close growth rings in preference to rings wide apart Also consider any with thick side branches - on the assumption that you are hand splitting these, side branches slow the process and are harder to get through, nothing to do with heat output but all to do with your back.
  18. Daily Reeves now is it? Seriously, trying to make a political pint under the banner "Barclays App outage"? Seriously?
  19. 'Offered' can be a couple of things, offered for free or offered for some consideration (cash, time, cakes, beers?) Free: Fantastic, you have a great deal. I wouldn't worry too much about the species if it is in a log burner. Log burners contain many sins of the log - sparks, poor burning and smoke smells. Once they are dry perhaps sort them lighter and heavier (kind of hard wood / softwood split). Lighter for the ends of the season to take the edge of a chill or for kindling, heavier for mid winter, and you'll be good to go. Cost: Depends on what it cost, probably cheaper than buying seasoned, split and delivered though you do need put in some time.
  20. I do not believe the POTUS (title of this thread) is in an Asian grooming gang and the subject is covered elsewhere in the forum. Classic distraction technique away from your rapist hero, your adoration for the POTUS when in reality his crimes number amongst the lowest of the low. Why is it you can hear no bad words said about Trump?
  21. It is not a question I'd expect you to be answering but it is highlighting your massive double standards with regards to Trump and real life. Double standards it appears you are uncomfortable with.
  22. If you have time, 2 cuts low at the base leaving a gap, it will die off and be easier to remove
  23. Not at all but it would be a small thing to ask that the law makers respected the law wouldn't it? There are some crimes out there - and I count rapes and child rapes - that should sit uncomfortably in the mind when you are going to put a cross on a piece of paper to vote. You are obviously quite happy that Trump is accepting of others sex crimes against children... not a thing that sits comfortably with me I'm afraid.
  24. Legally in the US where this happened, the girl is a child. A law maker should be aware of this. A president should also know the law and should not be promoting such criminals into government. I assume then that in the UK you'd be OK with a 35 year old sleeping with one of your 17 year old daughters? You'd be quite happy having a beer with the man before he goes to your home to see to her? Didn't think so. Noting also that in the allegations against Prince Andrew (also aged mid thirties at the time), in the UK that girl was also 17 and no crime was committed and yet look at the UK press on the subject. Edity bit. Taking your comment a step further that because the girl in question is of the legal age of consent - in another country - and so that is OK, why not look at all the countries of the world? Where do you draw the line?
  25. What's so funny about the 'leader of the free world' and his lax attitude to sex crimes?
