  3. No I moved on to hitch climber. Far better Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  4. I use a small bridge so my prussik was fairly close and a pain in the arse when using a foot ascender on long climbs. So this meant I got a better advance. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  5. It may be usable on the other side but I found this works really well. Only really used it for a few months before moving on to a hitch climber. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  6. There's always this way. Similar to the one with the paracord but using a spare prussik loop if you have one. Works really well with a foot ascender or foot locking. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  7. Yeah I was there for a solid 4 weeks. Yeah that's fine mate I don't mind. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  8. I am a service leaver so I did the basic arborist course which gave me about 9 tickets in total. I would say try and get your rescue climbing ticket as it's a requirement for a climber to have a rescue climber if he's going in the tree. The ones that have helped me are the rescue climbing, climbing and rigging. Also chipper ticket is handy but not vital. Even though I have no industry experience I have been given some basic climbing tasks like crown lifting just to start me off. But definitely look towards rescue climbing. TKF have been really good as well. They get people calling them every now and again with jobs for newly qualified people and they have emailed me before. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  9. Hi dale. I was in a similar position to yourself. Having a career change at 30. I also did my training with TKF and they are brilliant. I did a few more tickets than just the CS30/31 though. I'm now employed full time but it took maybe a month or two to get a job offer. Basically I just called all around my area and a little further afield, mainly for grounds man positions and such. I also found arbjobs.com really helpful as there's a lot of jobs advertised on there. Although a lot of the jobs say they want experience I found that people were still interested in talking to me about them and have attended a few interviews for them. Just a lot of perseverance and patience mate. Adam. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  10. Sorry forgot to say I have all my own PPE, climbing kit and ground saw. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk

  14. I started lesson one and have done the soil handbook work and have sort of died off at the minute as I've been busy. Plus need to find somewhere to do a soil sample as my garden has a very low water table and won't get that deep before me feet will be wet. Other than that I find some of the work guide information confusing but the internet helps me to get my head around it haha. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  15. Well I've only me self to blame if I can't get a job haha. I'm happy with me skin and have no regrets. Plus they are a good talking point for breaking the ice with people. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  16. I'm a big fan of the old traditional naval tattoos. Not a fan of owt above the collar though. Each to their own. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  17. This interests me as I'm just getting into the industry from a background as a Royal Navy submariner for just over 12 years. I have plenty of tats, none crude or racist and all related to the navy. I've always wanted my hands tattooing but in the mob your not allowed anything above the collar or below the cuffs. Now I'm leaving I've just had my fingers tattooed with writing (more naval related stuff). Interested in getting people's opinions of this would hinder me getting employed. Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  18. Hi I'm new to the Arb industry and looking for work. I'm able to start from 22nd of August and ideally in the Lincolnshire area, but happy to travel to humberside, Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire areas. I have CS 30,31,38,39,40,41 and 50 (201, 202, 203, 206, 304, 305, 306, 307 & 308). However I have no experience in the Arb industry but I'm really eager to learn. I am soon to be Ex-Royal Navy of 12 1/2 years and very reliable, punctual and well mannered. I have a full uk driving license and have recently enrolled in distance learning for RFS ABC level 2 cert in arboriculture. If anyone would like any further info please don't hesitate to contact me either on here, email or phone (however I don't get a great signal at home). I also have a CV available for anyone who would like it. Cheers for your time. Adam. [email protected] 07478554222 Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  19. That would be great cheers. No I'm currently armed forces getting ready to leave and they have paid a large portion of it as a resettlement package. The course was done by TKF training in Yorkshire. Really good, loved every second of it.
  20. The way I read it is you need to have all of table one and another 4 at least one from table 2 and 3. I've have just started the course myself and already have all but the chipper ticket from table 1, 1 ticket form table 2 and 4 from table 3. Do by my reckoning after completing the theory work and a chipper ticket would that be me a cert Arb?
  21. Hi I'm currently in the armed forces and leaving in September. I've recently completed a Basic Arborist course which includes; Chainsaw maintenance & cross cutting Felling up to 380mm Accessing a tree using rope and harness Aerial cutting of trees using a chainsaw and free fall techniques Aerial rescue operations Aerial tree pruning Aerial tree rigging Preparing and agreeing emergency tree work Emergency tree work operations I'm after any advice to help me get into the industry and methods of gaining employment. I live in Lincoln and there doesn't seem to any grounds man jobs going. I have emailed around 8 companies explaining my situation and a copy of my CV. Also I've enrolled in the HCC level 2 certificate in arboriculture. Cheers. Adam.
