  1. Cheers, will pm you if and when I have a chance for a social visit :-)
  2. I spent a little over a year living in Trecinni just over the road from you :-) Rather busy with personal stuff at the moment, but if I get a bit of time free I may well pop over for a looksee.
  3. Yeah, plenty of people have certainly had bad experiences with huskies! At first my 560 would a total b*tch to start when hot, but ut seems to get better and better each day I use it, and after a little while you get a feeling for how you're gonna need to start it (primer pump, high idle etc) depending on how long it's been since you ran it, how warm the weather is etc. Most of the time now it just starts first pull no problem! :-P
  4. I bow to your superior knowledge over my hearsay good sir! Would'st thou agree however, that the 560 is a spiffing saw?
  5. I use a 560 and when we're chogging up fat stems it keeps up with the boss using a 441 (and his sharpening is significantly better than mine) - I think the 560 is pretty much the best all rounder, light and ergonomic enough to use all day, but with enough grunt that you need to be cutting something really big to feel that you'd want a bigger saw. If I had the money I'd probably get a 562 as the 'one saw to rule them all' as I've heard that the little bit of extra grunt makes a big difference in terms of running longer bars - though mine goes very happily on an 18" and I think could pull up to 24" if necessary :-)
  6. Whereabouts in Fishguard? I live just up the road in Newport and enjoy this sort of problem solving :-)
  7. I'm usually late, so I'll stick with second class :-P
  8. That should have you sorted then! Good luck with getting yourself the right chains :-)
  9. I have a pretty much knackered .325 .050 chain at 72 drive links (i think), but i live in south West Wales so it might be a bit of a drive for ya! :-P
  10. Hey whiplash1, what size saw and length bar are you planning on running the chain on? Oregon speedcut txl does cut significantly quicker (especially when ripping!), but i was using it on my husky 560 with an 18" bar and it wore both the bar and chain very badly in a short period of time! But for anything 50cc and down i would certainly recommend it. Any .325 pitch .050 gauge bar is narrow kerf, as standard gauge for .325 is .058 PS, sugi bars are awesome, and rob d at chainsawbars.co.uk is the only person to buy them from!
  11. I've had the chain oil leaking out of me 560 like a b*tch as it's been living in the boot of the car for the last couple weeks - the stuff goes to water when it's this warm!
  12. Yeah, the gorse can be a little scary - good fun to find a big dead branch at the end of the night, light it from the embers in the campfire and dance around gliding this enormous flaming mass on the end of a stick :-P Hehe, I'm very impressed! Me pa tried (and failed) to start a fire using friction with a bow, and ended up sticking the bit of wood in a battery drill to get the fire going so he felt better about it all!
  13. Try dead fluffy gorse, a whiff of a flame and that stuff goes up lovely!
  14. Cheers guys, think I will stick with the original plan and go for .325 .058 with a Sugi pro lam bar (the pro light is a wee bit pricey for me at the moment, maybe when the pro lam wears out...) Stubby, what's the deal with an 8 pin sprocket? I've heard the term bandied about a couple times but I'm not really sure what the dealio is, would you mind illuminating me? :-) One last question, I'm assuming oregon chain is pretty much my best bet in terms of value for money, but are there any other suggestions?
  15. I got a second hand husky 560xpg last year and have been running it on an 18" bar with .325 narrow kerf (.050 gauge) chain. The chain, bar and sprocket have all worn significantly which I figure is a combination of them being too light-duty for the power of the saw, and being husky brand (they're good for power heads but I've never heard anybody praise their guide bars or chains!) So, would I be better off to get a .058 gauge .325 pitch bar and chain to preserve the advantages of a smaller chain (faster cutting, less load on engine, much better for ripping) or am I better off going for a 3/8 pitch, have it cut a bit slower but last a bit longer? It's probably just a personal preference thing, but I thought it would be a good idea to enquire of the vast wisdom held by the members of Arbtalk! Also it's funny to watch you guys bicker over which thing works better
  16. So basically you want to stick a miniature scythe blade on the strimmer
  17. I went for the blue as the guys I work with have orange and white. Was sorely tempted by the black or the green as they looked much nicer, but didn't much like the prospect of losing it within a week! :-P
  18. Yeah, I just got a kit one with the wire mesh visor and chipper ear muffs, nice and comfy! Everybody has a different shaped head though, might be that it just doesn't quite fit your proportions :-P You can adjust the strap bit at the back, that can help quite a lot - it's got little clicky bits either side so you can set how high you want it to sit on the back of your head, hope that makes it clear enough.
  19. The vertex vent seem to be the best as far as I know - without taking out a mortgage to buy a protos that is!
  20. Thanks guys, the issue wasn't so much finding ones that might work, it was finding one that isn't just some Chinese piece of cheese that'll last two minutes. Thanks for the OEM link Mark :-) Not sure why it was so difficult for me to find, maybe I was using the wrong search terms? I'm usually pretty good at this stuff :-P
  21. Hi guys! The rim sprocket on my 560 is totally fooked, and I am seriously struggling to find replacement sprockets online! Could somebody point me in the right direction? J
  22. I am 22 and have been working as a groundsman for 2 and a half years since getting my cs30 & 31. I have experience with felling, snedding, logging, rigging, chipper use and pretty much all other tasks a groundie would be expected to do. I am hoping to get my climbing tickets as soon as i have the spare cash to pay for them. I have my own transport, ppe and two of my own chainsaws (husky 560 and 445). I am hardworking, eager to learn, happy to use my own initiative and not afraid of early mornings or bad weather! Can give a reference if needed. :-) I'm currently living in Fishguard, though considering a move to Aberystwyth, so anything in West/South West Wales would be perfect. Contact me on 07891 011836
  23. What safety glasses would people recommend to wear along with a helmet, ear defenders and visor (for chipping dusty stuff on a windy day), where the ear stalks of the glasses don't impair the effectiveness of the ear defenders? I've tried a couple so far and they push the muffs off the side of my head just a tiny bit, letting in all the noise! I've heard some good things about the bollé ones, but do they still cause this problem, and if not which model is best? Also, the petzl vizir glasses attachment for the vertex vent helmet looks alright, but can you also have a mesh visor attached over the top with the glasses thing attached? This question has probably been answered already, but if that is the case I couldn't find the thread :-P Sent from my XT1039 using Arbtalk mobile app
  24. Just received this excellent article on Lyme's disease written by a great first aid instructor - I couldn't finish reading it due to getting a bit emotional thinking about how my dad's life might be different if any of the symptoms had been recognised almost twenty years ago, and allowed it to be caught while it was still curable.
