  1. Possibly initially yeah but what starts off as a good clean straight slab is not necessarily the same after a couple of years drying, The woodpecker kit is defo on the way too pricey for me side hence knocking up the ones in Ali. Hopefully they will be reasonably robust and do what’s required of them.
  2. Nothing flash Andy but strong and should do the job. Tried a few options for router base and to be honest either the plastic or Ali cut on the plasma moved well enough on the sled. Guess it’s not like it’s flying up and down all day. Plates are cut with a 60mm centre but no router mounting holes as I guess it depends on what machines gonna go on. The 60 mm aperture should accommodate the larger flattening bits no probs. Plan is to use some box section or straight timbers to crate the rails for the sled to run on. Any table or saw horses etc like the ones I see you have will take rails. I don’t have the luxury of being able to leave whatever I build set up so it will be put together when needed and stored if not.
  3. Had the chance to spend a day at a mates working on the ideas and fab for the flatteners. Plasma was great for making the router plates. Pics are in no particular order apologies for that
  4. Try Adrian Flux Andy my ifor is through them and price is very fair. Can you post a couple of pics of how the mill is secured to the rails during transit I’ve a few ideas of my own but it’s good to see how others have done it.
  5. Andy I’ve got a domino 700 bud. Very easy to use and produced really good strong tight joints joints., if no glue is used they can be eased apart. There are other options ie mechanical connections that would enable assembly/ disassembly as required maybe a combination of or something similar to the attached pictures.
  6. Lol yeah I looked at that and some old posts on here that mentioned 10 amps as a requirement, hence asking if anyone had actually bought something that does the job.
  7. Not necessarily on milling itself and this question is out there to anyone whom might know. Rather than running the Granberg sharpener off a battery does anyone know of a 240v -12v transformer that would fit the bill.
  8. What kind of vehicle you thinking of ??
  9. Attached to top of guard Andy ran off the onboard 12v system, got that pic off the inter web but something similar. Not much daylight in Aberdeenshire at the moment lol. Beams are for a split level drive and pathway set up at the lads house, they will be laid flat and used to keep two different levels of gravel apart and be morticed out to have uprights for a fence fitted into them.
  10. Nothing exciting, just knocking out some 10x4 DF beams. Might try some LED spots on at some point as ran out of daylight sharpish today.
  11. Makita LS 1219 is what I use, 315 mm blade will do a 100mm cut over a decent run.
  12. Agreed The larger mitre saws once set up can deliver really accurate cuts. I’d avoid the bigger circular saws for doing precision work. I’ve a Makita 0600 270 mm model and to be honest it was a wasted purchase, I used it once to cut some 8x8 beams and did not like it at all. I got better results with a handsaw and patience.
  13. Agreed , Rock Venom represents decent value for money. Ok some of welds are not pretty to say least but they do the job. I’ve the 35ton model and it’s pulled out as and when required with zero tlc in between and up to now after 4 years it’s never missed a beat.
  14. Probs not as much as you think if you can mill some of the timber yourself and don’t go too crazy with the spec etc
  15. Mark when I switched to the ripper blades I found they were slightly longer and had to reset the whole tracking/tensioning wheel a good bit further out. It’s a bit of a head f///k to get it right but once I’d watched it on YouTube a couple of times and actually took a look at the whole concept of how it works it’s not too bad. You got the original manual??. Basically you need the wheel to hit true just as you hit the required torque setting. Mind you I’ve ran plus or minis a couple of nm either side with no ill effects. Possibly you have goosed the existing blade too,
  16. Not sure if they can stipulate what type of fixing or material you attach it into as long as it’s secure. I guess the relationship you have with or the character/common sense of the FLO is what will determine how it goes. I went over the limit capacity wise on mine and ended up putting a second in the loft secured to heavy timber joists which was passed off no probs.
  17. View from Hound Point on the Forth
  18. Lovely bit of kit Andy for sure. Not cheap mind. I’m trying to persuade a mate who has all the kit needed ie lathe, plasma cutter etc etc to make such a thing. Would you be interested in going for that if I could get a price and a spec, obviously it would not be as pretty but if he goes for it I’m sure it would be a sound bit of kit from an engineering and functionality perspective.
  19. Hi All looking for a bit of assistance in sourcing some Elm boards for a mate at work. He is after a couple around 8-10ft long possibly up to 3ft wide and a couple of inches thick. something with plenty of character ideally. He is based down in Southampton so if anyone on here knows of anyone down that way any assistance would be appreciated. Cheers
  20. Hi What model did you buy from Rock ??.
  21. Total bullshit is what it is. Just another scammer trying to rip people off.
  22. https://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/stihl-ms661-chainsaw-four-bars-and-chan/1354249395?utm_campaign=socialbuttons&utm_campaign=socialbuttons&utm_content=app_ios&utm_medium=social&utm_source=ios_social Hi All Saw this on gumtree in Aberdeenshire today. Won’t give out a number ??
  23. I’m sure no one will laugh bud anyway rustic rough is all in now so what the hell give it a go. Not got far with the hydraulics to tell truth, power unit and steel etc is here but no time to get on with it plus HMRC is turning me inside out which is making any time off pretty crap but hey ho. Made up some ramps and a winch set up as a temp solution. Swapped over to them ripper 37s recently, they seem to cut well and show good longevity. Every day is a learning day for sure with the mill. I’ll get a few pics up at some point.
  24. Hi Andy Be interested to see that progress. Planning on doing the same for one of my lads, Elm in my case. Oak seems bloody hard to come by up here. Still working away on finishing touches with the 130 but short on time as done some long ones so far this year.
  25. They can’t sort out leaving the EU J because the wankers in Westminster can not bring themselves to honour the bloody referendum result. Instead we see all this absolute hypocrisy and bullshit etc etc being played out on a daily basis. All whilst our bargaining position is totally undermined by people fighting to take away the ability to say no to a shit deal. I’m sure you have walked away J from a overpriced bit of kit or not taken a job because the margins were too low. Imagine not being able to say no !!!!! It’s not rocket science.
