  1. Cheers for the compliment although being a cheeky twat is easy in reality. it’s good for the kids to muck in and take an interest for sure when they are young. Mind you the distractions of life soon made working with dad a chore as they got older, at least that’s what happened with the 3 elder lads youngest is still at home so I try and get him out as much as poss. Shooting is the thing we tend to do together. Anyway I passed the comment on ref the headboard to the mrs and got the typical Scottish/Aberdonian response I know so well. ??‍♂️
  2. I know you are a self proclaimed master craftsmen and obviously now the guru of headboards ( not sure if that’s because you have seen a few close up but each to there own ) but regarding Payment in kind after 6 kids I reckon I’ve got that side of things covered ?. Total mouse in the house that’s me Les happy wife happy life ??
  3. I shall pass you onto the mrs, my intentions was some live edge type stuff but it’s sometimes best to defer. Did I somehow break the approved bed headboard construction etiquette !!! ?‍♂️?‍♂️
  4. Hi All Pretty much ground to a standstill work wise so the mrs has been hitting me with painting and wallpapering tasks indoors ??. Trying to justify being outside and messing about with timber so knocked up a single bed from leftovers of a log store build and some ash planks, not high end furniture for sure but sturdy and should do the trick. Most importantly it kept me outside and busy for a day.
  5. Hi All Few pics of a mates handy work. The guys got a cracking workshop with cnc milling/lathe/plasma cutter and tig or mig set up for stainless and Ali etc. Anyone looking for anything bespoke lathed up or cut welded etc etc PM me and I’ll pass on his details. He’s based up in Inverness, proper old school cup of tea and a chat type of set up.
  6. There then myself Diving on the ponds that became the Sony building foundations.
  7. Well at the very least it gives J the chance to get the Lederhosen on I guess. Not sure if you know but J is half German, it’s been a while since he mentioned it so if you have been away making a brew you may have missed it.

    Covid-19

The cure and resultant situation may well turn out to be more painful than the virus itself, loss of jobs and income and the more than likely increase in mortgage defaults and devastation to many families etc. Taxation hikes for the masses will no doubt be applauded to support the NHS, regardless of its efficiency and management history. Currently I’m in that self employed loop hole that does not qualify for any assistance, we are living off last years tax money that was set aside, that in itself disqualified me from any form of financial assistance mind you not that I’ve even asked as my own opinion is if you can manage then you should do so and leave the assistance for those whom need it.
  9. To not succumb to the rampant consumerism as I’ve done in the past, and to buy British products where possible at the same time avoiding Chinese tat.
  10. From here on in I will be making a concerted effort to avoid buying anything from China inc shite like this. Hopefully the government will pull the plug on the 5G assistance deal from China too. About time we learnt how to value, service and look after good kit rather than the throw away mentality we all succumb too.
  11. I’m afraid you are spot on Andy https://www.eveningexpress.co.uk/fp/news/local/stork-sacks-north-sea-workers-due-to-covid-19-operational-drop-off1/ Feel for all these lads,
  12. The wanker contracts manager that has disappeared whom was our contact with the agency that has helped shit on me and my workmates. Be bloody great to dish out some old school retribution.
  13. Not altogether sure Andy as You know I’ve been dealing with this for a while now but they seem to be ramping up the pressure big time. To state the obvious the timing could not be worse.
  14. The order you received was it for standard size ie 4x2 or something different. ?or logs for that matter. just thinking Maybe I’ll try and generate some income from that pile of Douglas I’ve got. Hopefully that makes sense
  15. Well fucked off to tell truth Kev worst thing is we had no choice at all but to go down the route we did. Something HMRC are well aware of but just don’t seem to give a shit
  16. Les was that for a standard size or made to order ??. Got plenty of Douglas left and time on my hands at minute.
  17. Not in great detail but basically a total of 48 of us were at different times employed through an agency contracting us out etc. Told on numerous occasions yeah compliant not a problem all ok etc etc, key thing was if you didn’t go through the agency whom were the sole labour provider for the client we worked for basically you didn’t work, 4 years later HMRC come knocking saying you should have done X not Y etc etc give us the difference in tax and oh by the way let’s have a bit of interest. Zero comment from agency and contracts manager from said agency whom no longer works there ?‍♂️?‍♂️Fucking brilliant. HMRC doing the standard thing and kicking the shit out the little guy. Stick in a bit of lock down and no work and things all of a sudden are looking pretty grim.
  18. Nope all tax paid up to date the whole works.
  19. HMRC ?‍♂️ Well just to start off the week the way the last one ended ie with the project myself and another 30 guys Were supposed to be starting tomorrow getting shelved for the foreseeable future due to the current circumstances. Myself and a most of the aforementioned guys stuck in an investigation with HMRC over a situation we had no control over several years ago have just received some eye watering life changing financial demands to be paid by April 20 ??.? So much for help and understanding for the self employed. Basically it’s pure bullshit and as usual the little man at the bottom gets totally humped.
  20. Cheers for the info guys. I’ll be milling the rest this weekend all being well so will stick up a few more closer pics.
  21. The pic of the pieces in the trailer was taken this morning on way out the house very early and it was indeed drizzling. The beam in Background is Douglas Fir. The later pics were of pieces milled on a nice dry day a couple of weeks ago. Definitely from same tree as I collected it where it had been felled a good while back, interesting to hear the difference of opinion.
  22. That’s from same stash done a couple of weeks ago. cheers
  23. Yeah I’ll trim off an end tomorrow and stick some pics up. It’s been laid at mine for ages. Poplar any good for working with if it is that ??
  24. Hi All looking to start a little job I’ve been meaning to do for a while, digging out some pieces of timber that might do the trick once milled. Had this for a while and was just looking for confirmation of type. cheers
  25. Agreed and understood but I can’t help but want an alternative to the two options discussed. Efficiency and competitiveness etc equals profit and invariably the guys at the bottom of the ladder getting fucked over which pretty much describes the UK sector N Sea as it stands right now.
