  1. Be careful with the lifting regs if you go down the route of man riding baskets. Worth Looking into as the restrictions and additional hoops to jump through are quite substantial.
  2. Not much enlightenment coming from the current crop of Scottish leaders in any way shape or form. If anything negativity fed in a steady drip.
  3. Come on Andy don’t forget the English or should I say British contribution ?.
  4. How long have we been in the EU j !!. As for the oil industry, I’d say defo not inefficient J possibly wasteful mind, and in some parts we are in the UK world leaders, Offshore commercial diving for example, the UK sector has lead the world in standards and safety. Germany and it’s safety and practices are in the dark ages in this area as a point of interest. Yes there are huge changes to be made J let’s hope we see some of them come into play in the future.
  5. As a contractor I’d be happy to see more of the Norwegian style employees rights, benefits and even taxes come in to the UK sector rather than the absolute cut throat use you and dump you mentality that is in place. I’m taxed schedule D which is NI at source and the rest through self assessment so basically no difference tax wise to an employee yet we get nothing ie no holiday, sickness, pension or any of the benefits an employee would get, also open your mouth at the wrong time and you are goosed, ie you just don’t get the call back. I’ve been in the RMT for years and quite frankly unless you are involved in trains they are not interested. Chatting to a Norwegian crane op on deck couple of days ago and he retires at 62 with the same wage or 80% of it I’m not quite sure of the figures. The way they are looked after is incredible, he was asked to start a trip early and do overtime for which the entire trip was paid at triple time. Crazy thing is the tax they are on for what they get back when you break it down and get over the 41% level here in Scotland actually is not that much different. The thing that bothers me the most is this whole pension thing ticking away waiting to bite us all on the arse in a few years time.
  6. Spent Xmas eve in QE Hospital in Gateshead with my mother whom hopefully is out today so I’ll happily take that for Xmas, NHS is an amazing set up with bloody incredible people many of whom are working today.
  7. Meaning the vast majority of the decent fields up north. It was that amazing humour of mine the same one the wife and kids struggle with ?
  8. Must be totally wasted Andy or pissing around, surely not serious mind you he has left you the cream up North ?
  9. ??? Joke or serious either way poor poor taste bud That map you show is rather amateurish to say the least, mind you I’m still doubting wether you are serious or joking
  10. Speculation and nothing more than your own opinions J. Corbyn was subjected to the same level of scrutiny as Boris and the election results say all there is to say on that matter. I know you have this left of centre at times extreme right wing mish mash of political leanings but as a nation that whole concept and that of Corbyns socialist utopia was soundly rejected. I hope you are wrong ref the not for the better quote, being tied to the EU corporate employment agency is not the answer to all the problems this country has.. At the end of the day unlike the unelected and unaccountable officials that run the EU, if as you speculate Boris and co make a mess of it J you can down the line vote them out. PS i do wonder J if in say 5 years time this whole Brexit concept has proven to work and work well what will be the outcome for the EU ??, that’s just a non politically aligned thought nothing more.
  11. Well I guess we will have to get used to being responsible for our own actions again without the EU nanny state wiping our arses or at least giving the impression that they give a damn. As for Ryan air and flying in general my own opinion is that there is far too much of it and the subsequent environmental impact is hardly ever taken into account.
  12. Totally agree the socket for the stop is not man enough for the winch to be mounted on, the option I used was one size of box section for the socket and the next size down or whatever it was at the steel stockist that would fit inside it. The pics tell the story I guess. The plates are welded to chassis and the socket is welded at a slight angle. That could easily be modified to be a bolt on affair if welding to the chassis was not an option. The one in the pics is a mk1 version but the principle is all the same. Yeah the ramps are a bit beefy but it’s what I had at the time and as the saying goes better to be looking at it than for it ( strength in this case ) humour aside in reality the whole trailer and set up is probs a bit over engineered.
  13. Possibly yeah as agrimog has said. But on the other hand mine is levelled on a series of bolts welded to the chassis itself, this allows me to tweak the rails if required. Because of that I made sockets for the ramps that take a vertical extension on the underside of the ramp these are welded direct to chassis so no load on rails. The winch mounting arm fits in a socket welded to chassis too as I was not keen on relying on the set up woodlands use. Probs worrying for nothing but hey ho. For general day to day use in reality I’d say that the rails will take the ramps no probs. The reasoning for the heavier set up on mine is I know that it’s main work load initially will consist of oversize Douglas fir which is bloody heavy at this time of year. As for welding mines not perfect either and some days I just ain’t got the patience lol. One thing worth doing is get a little bit of tuition off someone whom knows what they are doing it’s worth it big time. A decent welder helps massively, I use a Lincoln 185 mig set up running on a 32amp circuit with a slow fuse.
  14. Possibly but to tell truth I’d just like a break from politics and referendum etc etc for a while.
  15. Not Moaning about PR Andy what I do not agree with is the fact that Sturgeon and the SNP are standing in front of every available camera and claiming an absolute mandate for another referendum. Which in my eyes they plainly don’t have.
  16. Facts Not SNP propaganda which I hate to admit is very very well done in a cynical lying type manner.
  17. That trailer certainly looks robust enough Andy to take the type of bracket I put on mine. Be a shame to compromise the galvo like. The bolt on bracket idea is probs best for sure. I was using a clogger with some climbing rope when doing it manually, very easy to pull up as you go up to act as a safety mechanism to stop the whole lot coming back at you.
  18. That set up in the pic cost very little Andy. I’m gonna weld some small bars/ridges on ramps and pull with a small bridle to stop logs sliding off centre. But yeah I will agree hand balling can catch you out quickly if you are not careful.
  19. Hi good to talk about something other than bloody politics ? No the trailer was just fag packet engineered to tell truth bud. The leg issue was sorted with a bit of fabrication as per pic, no big hassle just an annoying oversight on the day. Not sure what you mean by tight fit ?? But if you mean 6 legs instead of 4 then I always tend to over spec stuff ?‍♂️. I see what you mean ref hydraulic lifter and angles etc for rams but I guess the woodmizer lifter is pretty similar too. The hydraulic side of things are on hold due to work and loads of other commitments etc etc. I made the ramps and winch set up in pics using an old superwinch s2500 I had lying around for around £150 so for now it will do. The limiting factor when cutting is me as I’m often stopping and measuring etc to get most out of the log, the ability to look at and read a log so to speak is I guess a skill learned.
  20. The higher tax rate in Scotland kicks in substantially earlier than rest of Uk which you forgot to mention. As for the rest well I guess you enjoy history.
