  1. I mean the height difference between the bottom of the gob and the back cut, stump height isn't relevant if it isn't forestry, your back will thank you High stump in forestry? cut it down and hide it in the brash pile
  2. 9/10 knocked off 1 for the tallish hinge, (if it was my fell I'd think it was a 10/10 )
  3. LOL, Yeah I've been extracting windblown for the past 3 months, the temptation was too much "Things that annoy you on site", guys titting about with with creative felling cuts
  4. From yesterday, standing stem, top broken off, diameter just over bar length (18" Bar) with a lot of growths and a very flared out stem. Trimmed off growths front and back, could have trimmed sides for a regular back cut but went for a bore cut working around from right to left. Wedged at 4 and 8 and felled with an 8" wedge at 6.
  5. Working mans perspective IMO you can consider yourself a respected working tree guy, always given me advice when asked without being dismissive and it's appreciated.

  7. You don't think it's getting a bit moany for it's own sake? Maybe it's just a way to let off steam, maybe my response was just an alternative Anyway, to all, enjoy the weekend, it's all to deal with again next week
  8. I guess I could moan a bit myself, maybe the ciggie thing is the straw that broke the camels back, in your case and mine I think we need a thread about the good stuff and good attitude otherwise it's going to end up with everyone depressed, the ones who have to deal with poor standards of work and the ones who feel that no matter what they do it'll be a fault. Sorry if I was a bit reactive, you just happened along at the wrong time
  9. I take your point and the help comment wasn't directed at you specifically, but in all seriousness if people are stressed to the level they seem to be where even the smallest thing is attracting their attention then their health is at risk and they need to sort it, if that means they need to let staff go then so be it. What's starting to come across in this thread is that some people believe themselves to be perfection personified, faultless and beyond reproach and everyone else is useless/lazy/careless/clueless. As for the pay issue, Chicken and Egg comes to mind. When someone uses the term 'Unforgivable' to describe rolling a ciggie regardless of how long they've sat in the truck on route then I'm sorry but that's Bull$hit IMO.
  10. The point I'm getting at is that in the greater scheme of things the time taken to roll a ciggie is irrelevant. In all honesty if that's all it takes to annoy you you need help, seriously. 'Becoming' a grumpy old man?
  11. That's Bull$hit, nothing more than fault finding for it's own sake.
  12. Best way forward in the end, it'll be interesting to see what comes out of it

  14. People who always point out problems but never look for solutions.
  15. Not that I'm not sympathetic, working with people who DGAF is soul destroying, in the end peanuts and monkeys comes to mind but it isn't always the case, get a good guy pay him his worth, people who can't or won't learn you have to let them go for your own sanity at least. I think it's a youth thing, I started working in a factory at 16 with a couple of guys I knocked around with who were a couple of years older, was I keen to work? did I try to learn quickly? got to say no, I just wanted to have a laugh. At 20 in a bigger factory I'd changed, matured if you like, the money was vastly better which I didn't want to risk losing by not getting the job done and I'd a few more responsibilities. Now at 53 and new to this industry I've enough life/work experience to watch and learn, not be standing around waiting to be told to do something but being willing to stop what I'm doing and go where needed when asked, to respect other peoples equipment but I'll use it hard if I need to as I do with my own equipment. There are vastly more distractions for a 16 year old now than there was when I was 16, mobile phones for one, we were all young once but obviously guys who are now running their own business are that bit more focused than most which is why they have their own business, in a way it's maybe a good thing that you have slightly inept workers otherwise you'd have no employees but you'd have 10 guys in competition.

Basically when all is said and done, yes it'll be ok, not perfect, not optimal but still ok.
  17. Rotatech or Robs budget line? I'm not on Facebook.

  19. Thanks Rob, hardly scientific I admit but I neither have the time nor inclination to do comparison videos etc, longevity will be the next test, I know how long an Oregon chain lasts me, will see how the Rotatech compares. Will also keep a lookout for your thread.
  20. Hi, just checked and I bought the chains in August, if mine are the older variety then the new ones pre-stretched would be an improvement but to be honest it isn't really an issue either way.
