  3. All criticism welcome, and points taken. I do cut ears on lager fells, didn't see the need really on the top. And I see what you are saying about the stub cuts, will try to break that habbit. But I'm on the clean up duty so never mind the groundys!
  4. I usually hate selfies, but when you're up a tall tree for the first time, why not?! Chuffed at all the positive comments, was planning and looking forward to it for weeks, first time I used my new chipper too. Great day!
  5. I used a rope strop and a wire core, red one is the wire core. Was too tall to drop in one in that garden, could have felled it higher than I did, but the neighbours kicked off about the shock wave as it was!
  6. Its a gopro 4 black, used to breath the chilis, thought it would go good. Elderly neighbours paid for them to come down, was a same size Douglas too. They were worried they might destroy the house one day. Which they would have, IF they ever fell over, which they weren't going to do anytime soon, both were the picture of health. Tiny, tiny bit of rot in the union of the twin tops in the douglas, that was it though
  7. Its a new M-tronic, got it with only 2 hours use from a mate at work, love it! My 200t just got to unreliable. Thats a new 661 m-tronic too, got it for this job, spent the profits before I had earned them, but awesome saw really light for a big one, great for blocking down
  8. Just done my Larger fell with these guys, also very happy Good price, good tuition and good B & B included Cheers Mart (Passed)

  11. Just waiting to sell my Landy and I'll have the deposit, going with the Forst I think
  12. Both chippers are from Redwood
  13. I've been climbing on it, its fine really, just the thigh straps sit quite low, mainly when you are standing up, not in a tree.
  14. I have a Petzel Sequoia harness, its not old, bought it at Christmas. Had a little slip off a branch, the elastic bands that go from the rear of the waist to the rear of the thigh straps, got caught and my body weight snapped them and I took a fair old swing, luckily didn't hit the stem. Can the elastic bands just be replaced and sewn back on? Will it affect LOLER? They are non structural, in fact do they need to be there at all to pass a LOLER?

  18. Similar ages, the Jensen is slightly older I think, Forst comes with a full on 12 month warranty, the Jensen has one too but they manufacture Forst so back their product more. I have used various machines, and regularly hire a timber wolf 150, no point doing things by half, I want something that will last and won't let me down. It has how ever blown my budget for a decent tipper, been using a l200 with a mini box until now
  19. About to buy my first chipper, going for a tracked machine. Its down to a choice of a TR6 with 500 hours or a 540i with 1000 hours Both come with the same trailer and cost within a few £100 of each other (£19000 ish all in) I did think that going for a bigger diameter was what I wanted, but the Forst is a very nice bit of kit. I want to be desirable as a subby man and chipper combo while business is still building, Any thoughts?
  20. Ohh, I thought you could always drive a trike on a car licence. So if I did a full test the 79 code disappears?
  21. Sent off my licence after my BE test Came back with what looks like a full A entitlement Any bikers confirm or disconfirm disconfirm this? (I have taken CBT twice but never a full bike test)
  22. Posting this to help better myself and improve my technique I still have a lot to learn but my skills are improving fast My question is... I know about making the correct final pruning cuts, I was lifting/laterally reducing a large oak this week. Client wanted more light and to remove risk of damaging a stable below. When it comes to taking off huge lower limbs, I found one or two stubs from previous work. Have these been left because the previous climber was lazy/rubbish and didn't want to lower down and deal with a great big log? Or is it good practice to leave large stubbs with these kind of limbs so not to leave massive open wounds where the final pruning cut wound go? So to reduce gateways for pathogens and aid proper healing ect? On the image attached you can see my finished work. The lower left wound is no doubt a poor job on my part, I when through a nail without realising and only noticed the saw was cutting in a curve when it was too late and I had made a pigs ear of the far too large final cut. Which is what led me to start thinking about this.
