  1. Why use Hydraulic oil then? is that just manufacturers reccomendation? I think i would just use bio chainsaw oil/veg oil, got to be better for you than hydraulic oil if your breathing it in...

Probably gravity fed and chain oil etc will be too thick

  2. I dont understand the gpm argument in so far as; why is a petrol unit giving 11-20 gpm better than say a compact tractor with 30-40 gpm. PSI is the critical figure, but say it was constant, surely the higher gpm from the compact would be better.

The reason I'm asking, talking to a few people; they tell me a petrol engined machine is the way to go, but all that noise, plus having to buy another engine, which needs more petrol which I hate, as its smelly stuff. For me a tractor is quieter, nimble and uses diesel!!

A good electric version would be ideal; but useless on site. But how many people split on a job? Mines all in a shed now, so am even thinking electric is the answer!

    Decisions, decisions.

Get a pto driven splitter with an electric motor.

    Best of both worlds.

Electric for when your in the shed, but also gives you the option to take it to a job on the back of the tractor

  3. Tragic accident. I can't beleive that a tractor is actually allowed to tow travel at 31 tons GTW without some sort of fail safe brakes- crazy IMO, particularly given that they are not currentlu subjected to road worthiness tests either.

Can't really see from the photos how its physically possible to fit a second digger on that trailer, media have a tendancy to distort stories so....

    Horrific accident.

31 GTW, but the trailer isn't allowed to exceed 18 tonnes.

Anything over 40km requires air brakes, the same brakes as an commercial HGV, which are not fail safe, I don't know of a braking system that is?

  4. Somebody had way too much spare time that day, she's definitely a good operator and the machine is a really good setup, wounder how it fairs in very wet conditions...

Looking at some of her other videos, she seems to carry a fair weight in her trailer.

    Very efficient set up indeed.

  5. Yeah I should have mentioned that bit; a heavy right foot makes a plug-in expensive but I drive like an old woman with an eye on the mpg so have a dainty little size 9 on the gas. My Nav's averaging around 30mpg; John O'Groat's and back recently got me over 36.

The Powerbox lets me do everything a gear up than without it.

The fact that a plug-in is removeable is a huge plus.

Are you running road tyres or all terrains?

Ranger gets 22mpg on a good day with a heavy foot and running on at's.
