  1. If no-one created any wealth we'd still be tilling our furrows on those strips of land like our ancestors used to do!
  2. Agreed Two Acres! Eggs but the guy has created that money and will no doubt invest it , perhaps employing people, and create more wealth. What would have happened if he'd have paid most of it in tax?
  3. I agree 100% on that with you Two Acres. There needs to be a safety net.
  4. I'm with you on that Mark, Benefits shouldn't be a "lifestyle choice", stand on your own two feet! Labour have a vested interest in not letting the "poor" escape from poverty! No economy has ever taxed their way out of recession, like the French are trying to do. And Two Acres, Vote with your feet on that one!
  5. Just Checking! Others may have you down as a "Champagne Socialist" but I'm reserving my judgement!

  7. Cameron and Osbourne have been elected to their "lofty" positions. There was no entitlement there. And don't you invest in the Banking System that you appear to dislike intensely?
  8. OK so we allow talent, skill and ability to prevail, and those people increase their income and become the very people you seem to revile!
  9. It might also be a good idea to check if you live in a Smoke Control Area, I discovered I was before I chose my fire. It severely limited my choice of appliance! Appliances - Defra, UK
  10. Carpenter1, so that would be 48.07p (per kWh) for the generation and 3.39p (per kWh) for the export giving 51.46p assuming you don't use anything in your home? https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/ofgem-publications/85846/010214rpiadjustedtariffspv1.pdf

  13. Do you mean something like this treefolk? REHAU RAUTHERMEX pre-insulated heat transfer pipe
  14. Brilliant Jules! First pic Blencathra to Skiddaw second pic Cat Bells and Castle Crag far to the left. Brings back memories!

  16. Not so fast skyhuck... the energy companies don't even know! Where is our gas coming from, Centrica? - Telegraph
  17. Where does the UK currently get its gas from?
  18. And no government ever Taxed their way out of recession!
  19. Codes for Sustainable Homes, http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/uploads/code_for_sust_homes.pdf code 6 is supposed to be carbon neutral. I agree with all of the foregoing. Govt would dearly like to tax wood, they just can't find a way yet! It's a bit like electric cars. Typical cost per mile for an ICE (fuel only) 12p. Charging cost for an EV between 2p and 3p. Broadly it takes as much electrical energy as fossil fuel per mile, the difference in the cost is Tax!
  20. Might be best to go down the "small claims court" route. Probably cheaper than a solicitor.
  21. What we need is better managed woodlands!
  22. When I saw the thread title I couldn't resist! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMctMhMOtrY]austin powers (part 2) tent scene - YouTube[/ame]
  23. Google Is Your Friend ... Friendship Estates - Yew Collection
  24. I managed to fix the air intake into the floor, there's about 200mm clear space below and there are airvents in the foundation walls to allow for ventilation. A lot better than having open vents in the room or drilling through the wall! IMHO.
  25. My 2p worth. I buy round wood from the local arbourists. I process it in my garden/garage. The latest was some oak rounds and branches (about 2.5m3). I've got all the proper gear, and did the latest equivalent to CS30. I'm ultra careful about sawing on my own property, but don't have insurance. I suppose I'm taking a risk. It might be worth looking into though!
