  1. I been thinking for a long while to have a woman running my stump grinder, for the simple reason i think it would be better. Females are known to better on machines. Had in my mind she can run the machine and i can do the heavy work around it. It's remote controlled.
  2. I'm using a predator 38 works fine for me.
  3. Thanks for the replies, i will consider them all, I post some pictures on finished van in 2 weeks or less.
  4. I took it all off, still few hours work to do. i got alluminium beams coming across, i had a thought to maybe put wood boards long ways over them. I really want the lightest option due to this old van have no turbo in it. i will remove all rust from cap and repaint it.
  5. The horse box was not in a good condition, i possibly could have sold it but i would have felt bad for the buyer, so im cutting it down. I checked up the Beaver tail and that seems alright. But the cost of that would be quite high i think. Might even put wood boards across it, but if i do it myself i'm worried about the finishing work of it. All i really need is for the machine to go on it, and the safety screens to be somewhere, and rakes.
  6. I got a Transit van from 1993, it was a horsebox van. i got it due to the big ramp in the back. Thought at the time that my stump grinder will go on no problem in it. used it a little but soon i notice the weight is way to much. So today i got a big angle grinder and started cutting the thing off. 6 hours work and still not done yet ! So after work tomorrow i will continue this mission. I will take it off till the van is just the frame. But now im puzzled how to move on after this job is done. Was thinking if this is legal or not, but just have ramps on the body, for the tracks to fit in to and nothing else. Or to get a flatbed for it or dropside body. I over payed already on this van so i try and keep the costs down. But simple with the horsebox on it, there was no pull in the van. and the grinder is 1000 kg. I had in my mind to have some sort of ramp thing on the van just for the tracks to fit in to, and drive the grinder on, and have some sort of things at the front i can flip over and secure it, and same at the back so it wont go anywhere.. What would you guys have done ? "I got a B licence so cant use trailer" Thanks
  7. The light weight safety screens are very good, thing is you need to pay around 600 pounds to get the full machine covered all way around, that way it's safe and very little mess, have someone with you to move the screens, they are not safe to move if you have a remote controlled machine, unless you put the remote down on the ground. Get the ticket and do everything by the book, scan the area before you grind. Also use boards to drive the machine on in folks garden. There is money to be made if you do a very good job of it. The one deciding if it's success or not is yourself.
  8. I walked away from every monkey tree i came across
  9. Do the best you can to leave a good job behind you, tidy job, and friendly. Treat your customers like it was the king and queen you was working for. Travel around and check your surrounding, don't be afraid to knock doors if you see a tree you think could be taken out or shaped. To be confident is the most important factor to success. For me when i started doing trees some while back the local papers was my main income, Have a tidy vehicle with a logo on it. Always smile. When i did the tree surgery i target only areas where i knew folks had money, the reason for that is they do understand we all trying to meet the ends and you don't have to cut your prices to low.
  10. I'm just getting started with a predator 38rx, i will do this on the side from my main job. My idea is to put an add in a few papers and keep it there always. I hope that will generate work for a full saturday work each week. Good luck with your adventure Tommy Davies.
  11. This tracked Vermer log lifter seems very good
  12. Just price it as low as you can and see the profit in the logs. a year from now when they are dry you make you profit, if the tree is massive it will also give you good memories to look back to, nothing can beat some good memories. I know from when i used to live in my home country Sweden i once felled a massive big very very big tree on a power line the full thing went up in flames so i phoned up the power company told them i had a problem. "without knowing team 2 had also felled a tree on the very same power line and they also had a problem, power company thought it was the same issue and shut the power, team 2 phones up and say problem sorted" meanwhile i stand there trying to get the tree away from the 20000 volts power line and they turn the power on, it's situations like that that will give you memories for life. so i would if i was you put the price very low, and get up in this beast and don't think to much of profits and other things, just see it as a good experience. Nothing can beat it. i look back so many times on works i done and it makes me very happy. Big jobs is the ones that makes yourself happy, just go for it price it low and do it lol ....
  13. I once took down a tree in Glasgow a big oak tree must have been 10 trips with a transit van, i priced it at 1400 pounds. I took it down myself, had my dinner break roped up to me, fuel and ciggs when the packet runned out. One grounds men a ex whiskey worker from Kilmarnock. the tree was lending over the house, when i was out on the branch i was well over the middle of the house. But i managed to get this beast down in a very safe manner. just took my time. i could see in to the apartments of a 5 story house, hired a stump grinder carlton the big 70 something. was a school next to it, needed signs, so went a trip around the area and whoolaayy there was many did borrow them and put them out. the fire wood for this was crazy alot. If i was you i would price for 2000 pounds and make sure you get the monies out of the logs that will be your profit.
  14. Forgot to add, i'm in Ayrshire area. but can travel i don't mind seeing the nice Scottish country side since i'm Swedish and it would just be like a holiday trip for me
  15. I do stump grinding on the side from my main job. Got a predator 38rx
  16. HOME - Stump Grinding Direct Ltd thats my site
  17. i got a predator 38rx, got it new. the only thing against this machine in my opinion is the amount of fuel it uses. I drive the machine with care and have not stalled it yet. Easy to keep clean aswell, grease points easy to access.
  18. I run a predator 38rx, works very well for me
  19. I have a predator 38 RX, the machine is awsome. If you grind stumps beside a fence consider to create the side plates so they can be taken on and off so you can reach everything. good in slopes, goes everywhere. even in very small gardens.
  20. I am amazed by the energy, if i can find half of this drive in myself for my business i will be very successful.
