  1. And if people charged a proper price for doing the work in the first place they would be able to buy Kosher gear instead of cheap knock off!!
  2. Thanks, the lads did a great job and the customer is happy. They are looking after it as it has a TPO on it and is 10m from the house and want to keep it in the best shape as possible. The consultant put forward a management plan for the next 6 years. If only more people would do that then maybe more trees would survive longer.
  3. It was to stimulate growth so some of the bigger limbs can be reduced in a few years according to the advice of the consultant. Yes the lads used SRT, Matt and Mike are big fans of the SRT.
  4. About 6 months ago I got asked to arrange a tree survey on a monster Walnut, I did and the outcome was that Retrenchment pruning was required, 2.5 meters off all round to help stimulate growth. We did the job today. The tree hung over 4 gardens. 2 climbers and 3 of us dragging and chipping. The 230 was spot on and I only had to cut a union on a limb once, other than that everything went through the chipper, 1.5 loads of chip.
  5. Been on it for about 4 years now, brilliant stuff. I left it in a petrol mixer.....2 years ago, never been run. It started first pull today and runs sweet as a nut! I would not go back now.
  6. I have a list of garages I can use to get that price, if I use a shell not on the list it is pump price. The one I use is 5 mins away and very handy. No idea on petrol.
  7. Get on with it then Ham😝
  8. I found a lot of B&Q sites seem to be looked after by ground control who used to advertise for people on here. It might be worth contacting GC and asking if you can on their contractors list.
  9. Any vehicle mate
  10. Mine is chip and pin, there is only me that uses it, it is working well at the moment.
  11. No minimum spend or anything.
  12. I have a shell card, I pay 92.16p per litre plus vat, being vat reg helps.
  13. Ouch!!
  14. When I bought my 150 DHB in 2004 I was offered it without brakes.
  15. Nice bike! I'm on Spd pedals and I do like them but on techy single track, up or down they can be a bit scary and I'm considering going into flats. Mmmmm choices, Choices. I can't wait to go to glentress!!
  16. You need to be persistent mate, keep on keepin on!!
  17. Mail shots hamma!! Send a Nicky designed email listing your services to all hotels etc in your area. It does not cost anything to do that as flyers would do. It works!!!!!
  18. What do you want to earn and how much can you / need to live a nice lifestyle. £25-35k would be a start.
  19. Anything mate, I am doing a landscaping job at the mo, been in it 5 days, in that time I've had 15 nice jobs come in, I have also picked up a couple of jobs on the same estate. Don't sell yourself too cheap. It's the best advice I can give.👍🏿
  20. Ham, you can charge what you like but you must cover your costs or it ain't worth doing. I don't mean to be patronising but get a bit of paper and write down your monthly costs and work out your minimum daily cost and see where you are. It works, if I have had a good week and am in profit and I can go and cut a conny down and chip it and get 2 hundred quid then I will but I ain't doing a 2 hundred quid job for 100 because they expect that sort of price for ever. I have had it happen to me in the past. I know it's worrying if the phone don't ring for a bit but you just gotta get savy at stockpiling work or diversifying into fencing/landscaping/logs etc.
  21. I agreed with you. My point to the other bloke was that you can't run a business for peanuts and survive long term. Of course a tree surgery out fit is gonna need less to run than a haulage contractor, well depending on the size of the business of course. Most of us posting on this thread are reading from the same page, don't be cheap. I'm not gonna say what I charge but I have to take a certain amount per day to run, I then take as much as I can on top without ripping folk off. I'm happy in the end and that's what matters.
  22. Come on Eggs, explain.
  23. Bit of a pointless post, that like saying that I run an airline and my jet planes cost 10,000 time more to run than your woodchipper. You choose your business and run it the point of this thread was someone wanting to know how much to charge for a van and chipper not that it costs more to run a totally different business. My reply is not meant to offend by the way.
  24. Then when the same customer rings and you are busy and quote your normal rate they want to know why you've put your price up, been there done that mate, it's a road to nowhere.
