  1. Cheers, the more I have looked into it and gone through my books its the only option. I will be employing my groundy as I want to be above board with everything.. Thanks for your input. I had a look at your website, which one are you?
  2. Thanks Rick, I think it's the way forward.
  3. Hi, just wondering what the going rate is for a 27 year old groundy employee is, CS 30/31. Any advice is appreciated. PM of you don't want it to be viewed publicly. Thanks, Hodge.
  4. After reading all the posts to my thread I'm thinking of changing the way I operate, as Paul has said unless a buisness can sustain itself then there is no point in trying to go forward. I have spoken to my accountant and in the eyes of HMRC I should be employing my groundy, to do this will mean I don't have to worry about getting I'm bother off the HMRC I'm doing so it will push me over the VAT limit so I have been doing some figures and going VAT reg may not be as daunting as first thought. Thanks for all your input.
  5. Sod the trailer, I WANT that Fendt!!
  6. So your a ltd company? Therefore you will pay yourself dividends on top of your wage won't you? That's a whole different thread isn't it, to be ltd or not:)
  7. But I'm not trying to evade paying Tax, I pay my tax and the lads that sub for me pay their tax. I'm just not employing someone as it could ruin my buisness that I have worked hard and invested my time and money into. I'm not the only one in this boat.
  8. Fair play if that works for you but I don't have the commercial clients to carry me for the domestic jobs I wouldn't get. On paper it looked very nice to be able to claim the vat back but In Reality it wouldn't work for me.
  9. I can see where you are coming from but say 3 lads on a days job would be £550 then the vat makes £660 if I go in and price the job at £660 chances are I wouldn't get it. It's ok saying work harder and fit another job in bit in reality that's not always possible. Fair enough it works for you but not sure it would for me.
  10. You have to state that you are charging VAT. If I give a customer a quote they all ways ask if there is VAT, if the job is £500+VAT then the other guy comes along and is £500 no VAT the they will in most cases give him the job. If you look at a reciept from a shop it states the vat on it. All shops are VAT reg where as not all tree firms are.
  11. I don't see that I am gaining financially, I am making a living. What they don't get is that domestic jobs which is 90% of my custom would then have to have VAT charged on top, the customers don't want to pay VAT and use a non VAT company, I loose. I have been through this before on many threads and I know hat works for me in my area. I really feel that the small business man get shafted not helped.
  12. Thing is I really don't want to employ anyone and find it hard to understand why they can tell me I have to?? If someone is self employed and they pay tax then what's the problem?? If I pack in then they won't get any tax and I will be another statistic claiming benifit. I don't want to pack iron but ultimately that's what I may have to do or get 4 different groundies.
  13. They have no idea about reality! If I employ my Groundie then I might as well just shut up shop as I can't afford to employ anyone. This is because the last time I did it put me over the vat limit and I do not want to be vat reg as 90% of my customers are domestic and in my area most of the other tree firms are not vat reg. if I employ someone again I have to charge more to cover all the benefits that employees get (ppe, holiday pay etc) I also have to Pay my accountant more and have to cover my tax NI side of things which cost. The state the country is in they should be trying to help us employ not put us out of business.
  14. That's my situation too:blushing:.
  15. Hi Tom, please can you tell me where you got this info? Thanks:)
  16. Is this CIS? I have not heard of that before? Thanks for your input mate:)
  17. Try cosy logs on here, he has cord for sale:)
  18. This is what I was all ways lead to believe too. I get an invoice for work done of my contractors and I pay it. I do have their UTR numbers though. Thanks for you replies and I will enquire with my accountant:)
  19. Following on from another thread about self employed/employed I thought it would be good to get some info/advice as to how you use labour only contractors in regards to invoicing and tax? How do you know the person you are using pays tax or is even registered as self employed? I have been told that the tax man can come after the employer for unpaid tax. This would be bad news, if joe blogs who does days here and there for you and is paid on a day rate doesn't pay his tax. How do you guys cover yourselves? Thanks, Hodge:)
  20. I'm going to start a new thread based on part of this thread:)
  21. Ha,Ha, strange, I had been robbed and was taken back to the police station to give a statement.
  22. Where do you find out about CIS, my accountant has all ways said I do not come under it?? Then the guys who sun for me would have to be part of CIS too?? It would be good to know what the exact stand on this is.
  23. I hav been In the back of one belonging to SFPD;)
  24. Cool car, I all ways wanted one like that.
