  1. Didn't rain on the way home but will let you know...
  2. Well, picked it up and drove it home 120 miles. Engine sounds like a canal boat and radio reception is AWFUL (although slightly improved when I extended the aerial ). Less wind noise than the Subaru and feels nice and solid on the road
  3. Update: gave the underside a good wash, sharpened the blade and increased the tension (which is a pain as you need plastic spacers so I had to make them from an old numberplate). The grass is even longer now and although it struggled in places, it only jammed once. Almost regret ordering the DR brush cutter now although in places the grass is 2' high and I have plenty of brambles, rushes, bracken etc. that needs controlling. Most of the lawn is now covered in a thick layer of chopped grass so might look at a mulching blade
  4. I'd say for arb waste, which is likely to be knotty, go for the higher tonnage. The faster one would be great on straight grained stuff. I look forward to seeing the results
  5. Same colour as the Jimny! Should have better road manners too
  6. Here you go. It's a standard Hilux, not very exciting
  7. 120bhp - the 104bhp one I drove just felt a bit sluggish and I didn't like the colour. Might regret not getting the 3.0 litre one but none of them are going to have the acceleration of my Subaru Forester (for sale if anyone wants it!)
  8. Just ordering a reversing camera for it. It's already got a dent in the bumper... Picking it up on Thursday
  9. Might well be but this one isn't brand new. My insurance has gone up... by £3.95...
  10. Well, I've gone and done it... bought a Hilux.
  11. I will change my practice, I think, although I don't tend to use my chainsaw for long periods
  12. I normally know mine is low on fuel when it stops but wondering whether I'm doing harm to it, although it lessens the risk of having stale fuel in the pipe work, I suppose. I generally use it as a signal to have a bit of a rest and sharpen the chain
  13. It's certainly pretty wet at the moment! Hope it will work on rushes and willow otherwise I've just wasted a lot of money...
  14. Between all the members of my household, we have 6 cars and one motorbike (plus another 2 vehicles that are SORN'd). Thinking of setting up a business here anyway and wondered if fleet car insurance is likely to provide any savings over, say, Admiral Multi-Car?
  15. I'd wait until the leaves all drop off in the Winter
  16. For those of you on tenterhooks as to how I was going to rectify this situation, I finally got round to doing it today. Climbed up on the flat roof and with a trestle and a couple of ladders (with my father-in-law helping to brace things) we got it done. Typically, the rain has stopped now but the gutter isn't sagging there and I've cleared a lot of the muck out of it:
  17. Oh dear, I was hoping to use it on brambles. What's it like on bracken? I'm hoping it will cut the grass low enough that my ride on will cope so I shouldn't need the finishing deck
  18. You can buy a strimmer head for it for about £60 so I might look at that in the future
  19. Fancy buying a DR Power PRO-XL 26 20ES as it should get the grass low enough for my Snapper ride on to cope with (see http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/landscaping/91678-ride-mower-wont-cut-long-damp-grass.html) and I can also use it to cut through the brambles, bracken, rushes and willow on my vast country estate (10 acres). I know there are plenty of other makes out there (Scag, Attila, Billy-Goat etc.) but these seem fairly well priced and my local dealer isn't far away. Should be manoeuvrable enough to use amongst the trees. I'd be getting it from P&P Estates in Uckfield (Garden Machinery From PP Estates Sussex UK | DR Pro-XL 26 Field & Brush Mower - although this is the older model shown, the latest one is more powerful Briggs & Stratton)
  20. Found out my insurance company doesn't cover vans - so I've either got to cancel my policy and face the penalty, or start a new insurance policy with no NCD (which is expensive)
  21. Well. I drove it and it didn't have the acceleration of my Subaru Forester (not surprising) but was quieter at 70mph once it got there. Haven't made up my mind yet but will have a look at some others. Driving position seemed quite comfortable although on a short test drive it's difficult to really tell how it would be long term
  22. How about this: Ford Ranger 3.0 TDCi XLT Thunder Double Cab 4dr
